Chapter 11: Awakening to a New Life

Kuoh Academy, Occult Research Club

Toji Fushiguro awoke with a start, the last memories of his battle against the angel flooding his mind. His body ached, but he felt a strange, unfamiliar energy coursing through him. As his vision cleared, he realized he was lying on a bed, and near him, a woman lay, almost naked, covered only by a thin blanket.

Rias Gremory stirred, noticing that Toji was awake. She sat up, the blanket slipping slightly, revealing more of her bare skin. Toji's eyes didn't widen in shock or embarrassment; he had seen too much in his life for such things to faze him.

"How are you feeling?" Rias asked, her voice soft but filled with concern.

Toji shifted slightly, testing the movements of his body. "Better than expected," he replied calmly. "What happened?"

Rias sighed, pulling the blanket around her more securely. "You were on the brink of death. We found you torn apart, and you had lost a lot of blood. I used eight of my chess pawn pieces to reincarnate you as a devil in my peerage. It was the only way to save you."

Toji's expression remained stoic. "So, I'm a devil now," he said, more as a statement than a question. "And part of your peerage."

Rias nodded. "Yes. You are incredibly strong, Toji. I couldn't let you die."

Toji's eyes narrowed slightly. "Do you know anything about the incredibly strong white-haired angel with crystal blue eyes, who's using beams of energy?"

Rias looked pensive, her brow furrowing. "An angel with white hair and such a strange powers... No, I haven't heard of such a being. This is troubling."

Toji sighed, lying back on the couch. "Figures. Nothing is ever simple."

Rias continued, recounting the events of the previous night. "Last night, I felt someone use my card. I immediately called Akeno, and we teleported to your location. What we saw was... shocking."

Flashback: The Night Before

Rias and Akeno appeared in a burst of energy, the scene before them causing both to gasp in shock. Toji lay on the ground, his left side torn apart, blood pooling around him.

"Akeno, we need to act fast! He's lost so much blood," Rias exclaimed, her voice urgent.

Akeno knelt beside Toji, her hands glowing with healing magic. "I've never seen anything like this, Rias. Who could have done this to him?"

Rias shook her head, panic evident in her eyes. "I don't know, but we can't let him die."

Without hesitation, Rias summoned her chess pieces, feeling the weight of her decision. She placed eight pawn pieces around Toji, their energy merging with his broken body.

Present Time

Rias finished her story, her eyes meeting Toji's. "I had to use eight pawn pieces. Your strength is immense, Toji. You are a valuable addition to my peerage."

Toji processed the information, his mind already working through the implications. "I owe you my life," he said finally. "But I'm not one to follow orders blindly."

Rias smiled softly. "I don't expect you to. You are your own person, and I respect that. But we can achieve great things together."

Toji nodded slowly. "Very well. I'll see how this plays out."

As he lay back down, the energy of his new devil form settling within him, Toji couldn't help but think about the white-haired angel. Could he be that man? Could he be Gojo Satoru? The strongest sorcerer. He couldn't be sure but, he was now part of a world filled with supernatural beings, and he intended to find answers. But for now, he would play his part in Rias Gremory's peerage.
