Before the story can really get going, we travel back in time. We begin our journey with a man who became known and feared by the name of Danzo.

Danzo founded the Anbu Ne unit, which served only him and received its missions only from him. Every member of the Anbu Ne was given a black seal on his or her  tongue by Danzo, this seal prevented people from revealing any information about Danzo. (You could see that clearly with Sai.)

The Anbu Ne was a training division, an assassin group but also a group that carried out experiments. It was the way Danzo wanted it to be.

A man named Tanuki Shigaraki was one of his loyal subordinates. He was active in research, he developed the Gozu Tenno.

Tanuki Pov

I was just at work, my current work was the development of the gozu tenno.
The Gozu tenno is a ninjutsu and is based on cells from the first Hokagen Hashirama Senju.
The wearer has a seal placed on their back and enters into a contract with Nue, the seal acts as a medium to promote Nue with the chakra they have completed.
I researched and experimented for a very long time on the development of this ninjutsu, I wanted to copy a few techniques from Kaguya ototsuki.
During this whole time, when Danzo was my boss, I only devoted myself to my work.

But at some point, Danzo approached me about it.

Danzo: Tanuki Shigaraki, go home to your wife.

Otherwise you'll neglect her and then she might break up with you.

Tanuki: But Danzo-

Danzo interrupted me in mid-sentence and sent me home, telling me to take it as an order.  I didn't want to disappoint Danzo and went home so as not to disobey the order.

My wife Hakobe was already waiting for me and she started talking about her desire to have children. I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure and I didn't really want a child that I would have to look after for years. I thought that would just waste my time, which I should be investing in work.

The next day I confided in Danzo, I told him about my wife's plan to have a child, but to my surprise Danzo agreed.

Tanuki: Danzo, I don't know what to do anymore. My wife talks about the same thing every day, she talks about having a child together all the time.

Danzo; but why don't you want a child? That could come in Useful.

Tanuki: Because then I'd be wasting too much time that I should be investing in my work.

Danzo: Why don't you see the child as a plan B?

Tanuki; what do you mean?

Danzo; the gozu tenno is already in its final phase and if something should happen to me or the Anbu Ne is betrayed, your child will carry out the revenge for us.

After this conversation, I agreed with my wife, but for different motives and reasons. While Hakobe wanted a child because it was her greatest wish, I wanted a child that I could use as a weapon.

Author Pov

Hakobe had no idea of the machinations of her husband and Danzo.
She had no idea that a cruel fate awaited her child.
Tanuki and Danzo determined the child's fate, it was only to be a weapon, their revenge, it was only a puppet of them.

After a while, Hakobe became pregnant and Tanuki urged her to tell him the gender of the child. He wanted to give the child a name that suited its destiny. It was to be a name that had two meanings.

Hakobe told him that it was going to be a girl. With this news, Tanuki went to Danzo and the two of them thought about a name for the girl.

In the end, the name "Sumire" was chosen. The first meaning was beautiful, which should embody Hakobe's desire to have children, sumire can be translated with the flower violet. Violet means generosity, happiness, wisdom and peace. The violet flower also has other meanings such as innocence, eternal love, modesty, wisdom, loyalty and remembrance.
While the other meanings allude to the fate of the young girl, "sumi" is translated as ink in Japanese, "ire" is translated as container or anger, resulting in ink anger or ink container. It serves as an allusion to Nue and the associated fate.
