Mulligan and Lafayette left in their own cars, but Alexander doesn't have his driving license yet, which surprises me.
I get into the driving seat and I start the car. "How do you not have a license yet? You're really smart, right?"
He looks at me. "Well, I don't have enough money for a car, so why do I need to waste time on a license?"
I think for a moment. "Well, you could drive another persons car. Or can't your parents get you a car?"
He shrugs. "Yeah, but... recently, they've been busy."
I raise an eyebrows. "The two people who created you can't take their time to buy you a car?"
He shakes his head. "No. They're gone."
I go silent. "What do you mean by that...?" Please don't say I embarrassed myself real bad.
"The people who created me are gone. My biological mother is dead, and my biological father left. I was adopted." He explained, smiling.
My face flushed. "Oh, I am... very sorry, man."
He put on his seat belt. "It's okay. Not like you could've known."
I put on my seat belt and I start to drive. Alexander looked at me, but, as a very knowledgeable man, I kept my eyes on the road.
I thought he was going to say something. But he just looked at me. I cleared my throat. "You have something to say?"
He shook his head. "No, I just never realized until now you had freckles."
My hands grip the wheel a little tighter. "Oh. Yeah. My freckles..."
"What, is something wrong with them?" He asked, leaning back in his seat.
I chuckle quietly. "Uhm, no. Well, I guess not. It's just this guy in high school loved making fun of them."
"Oh. Who was it?"
I think for a moment. "I think it was... Thomas? It was, like, Thomas Jefferson or something."
"Hm."
"Yeah, he was annoying as shit. He always thought he was above everyone else. The only person he saw as an equal was James. James Madison. I was starting to wonder if they were related. Like, cousins or something." Goodness, I must be rambling.
He goes quiet for a moment. "What if they are?"
I laugh. "They're not. Went to a party once and Thomas was wasted. He attempted to kiss James many times, but he was disgusted."

Oh. "Oh."
Laurens stops at a red light. He looks at me. "What? Something wrong with that?"
Shit, I must've sounded homophobic. "Ah, no. I was just a little surprised."
He scratches his neck. "About what?"
