You know how they say bad things happen with those certain numbers? Well, today was the 13 and it was a Friday. Laney managed to spill her coffee all over herself because the hotel service knocked and scared the shit out of her. She barely had any time before McQueen's entourage would show up and start planning her look. But she also did wake up at 10:30.
Rushing around the room and tidying up, she finally took a minute to sit down and stare at the text. She has to reply. It would be fucked up not to. Her fingers hesitated before pressing send, because even she wasn't sure what to say. They had fought to this extent but when they were dating, it was never this bad.
Laney: You can come if you want. Good luck with your show tonight, you'll do great.
She never texted with a period and she never texted without enthusiasm but she was testing the waters. "If you want" was clearly code for "show up or I'll become upset" and he just had to know that by now. She had added him to the reservation.
Morgan: Thanks, you too. Love you, have fun tonight.
But the message became edited to:
Morgan: Thanks you too. Have fun tonight
Her jaw nearly dropped from the edited message. He must have really been mad to do that, and now she was slightly worried. He had never done that before. She pressed on his contact and was about to hit call but the entourage team had arrived. Laney opened the door and let them all flood in.
Her makeup was done first along with two meal breaks. Gold covered her eyelids and her mascara was applied. Catching a glimpse in the mirror she felt beautiful. Then came the outfit. It was exactly as envisioned. Red velvet and something similar to gold tulle with white pearls. Alexander mentioned a personal touch he incorporated, a blue and pink pearl for the baby. And after examining her dress she was able to find it, it was on the bottom of the drape.
Her heart swooned at the sight of the two pearls. Walking in the dress, she could feel the heartburn coming on and took a pill. Taking a picture in the mirror and sneakily having her phone in her dress, she was off. She asked the driver to play some Rihanna and when she had pulled up, she felt confident. Watching everyone's heads turn to the car changed that though.
As the door swung open, she took the man's hand and proceeded to walk. She was no model, she didn't know how to pose. Hearing a lot of "who is that?" circulate in the crowd made her heart thumb rapidly. As she walked down and posed a few times, her eyes saw the stairs. She began walking towards them when she heard her name being called by a familiar voice. Alexander. Turning around, he offered his can't which she immediately grabbed, "You look beautiful". She blushed as they posed together and they turned at different angles.
"You will have to go along the stairs to the interviewers. I will join you soon," he whispered before walking away.
Just standing next to him for a minute was enough to make her feel a sense of comfort. Walking along the edge of the carpet she heard her name called. Emma Chamberlain was the first familiar face she saw. She has never met her but she was a huge fan.
"Emma you look amazing," Laney complimented her, "I have seen a few of your self travel videos and your dads art. Huge fan!".
Emma looked kind of stunned, "My dad was actually just saying how he was excited for me to meet you, thank you. So who are you wearing? You look like royalty".
Laney took a deep breath, "Alexander McQueen who is kind of my date tonight since my husband isn't here. He did an incredible job".
Emma nodded, "Your outfit is definitely one of my favorites. Also congratulations on your pregnancy?!".
