Unveiling the mystery

The following day dawned bright and early. I arrived at the café, ready for another busy shift. The events of the past couple of days lingered in my mind.

By mid-morning, the café was bustling with regular and new faces alike. I was deep taking into orders when i noticed Leon walk in. His presence seemed to draw attention, but he made his way to the counter with a familiar, easy smile.

“Good morning, Saoirse,” he greeted, his eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief.

“Good morning, Leon,” i replied, handing him a cup of coffee. “Balik ka na naman? Hindi ka ba napapagod?”

He laughed, a sound that msde a few heads turn. “Hindi naman. I enjoy being here.”

“Well, maghanada ka na,” i teased. “Mukhang maraming trabaho today.”

With Leon by my side, the day flew by. He seamlessly blended into the rhythm of the café, helping with orders and engaging with customers. We moved together like a well-oiled machine, our interactions filled with unspoken understanding.

During our lunch break, we retreated to our usual spot at the back of the café. I brought out a plate of steak and rice, while Leon had a sandwich. As we ate, i couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of curiousity about him, his presence felt so weirdly familiar.

“Leon,” i began, “I know you said you’re involved in the family business, but ano ba talaga ang ginagawa mo?”

He looked at me, his expression thoughtful. “It’s... complicated,” he admitted. “I’m part of a large corporation. My family owns it, actually.”

I raised an eyebrow. “So, you’re like... an heir or something?”

He nodded slowly. “Yeah, something like that. But i wanted to experience life outside if that bubble, kaya andito ako.”

“Bakit hindi mo sinabi agad?” i asked, genuinely curious.

“I didn’t want to be treated differently,” he explained. “I wanted to see how people live and work without the shadow of my family’s name.”

“Hmm,” i murmured, absorbing his words. “Well, you’re doing a good job blending in.”

He smiled, a hint of relief in his eyes. “Thanks, Saoirse.”

The afternoon rush was just as hectic as the morning, but with Leon’s help, it felt manageable. As the evening approached, the café started to empty out, and we began to clean up.

“Saoirse,” Leon said, breaking the comfortable silence, “May i ask you something?”

“Sige, ano ’yon?” i replied, curious.

He hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Would you like to go out for dinner sometime? I mean outside of work.”

I blinked, taken aback by his request. “Dinner? As in... a date?”

He smiled, a hint of nervousness in his eyes. “Yeah, a date. If you’re interested.”

I felt a flutter of excitement mixed with apprehension. “Okay, sure. I’d like that.”

“Great” he said, looking genuinely pleased. “How about tomorrow night?”

“Tomorrow night it is,” i agreed.
