Hidden Agendas

Saoirse’s POV

The uneasy feeling lingered as i sat across from Reeve, attempting to engage in our conversation. But my mind kept drifting back to Leon and the unexpected tension that had surfaced between him and Reeve.

“So, how have you been, Reeve?” i asked, trying ti steer the conversation to familiar grounds.

“I’ve been good, just busy with work,” Reeve replied, stirring his coffee absentmindedly. “I heard about the café’s success. You’ve done an amazing job, Saoirse.”

“Thanks,” i said, smiling. “It’s been a lot of hard work, pero worth it naman.”

Reeve glanced towards the counter where Leon was busy making coffee. So, how long has Leon been helping out here”

I sensed the underlying curiousity in his tone. “A few weeks now. He’s been a lifesaver, honestly.”

Reeve’s expression darkened slightly. “You trust him?”

The question caught me off guard. “Of course, i do. Why do you ask?”

“Wala naman,” he replied.

I frowned, not liking where this conversation was heading. “What do you mean, Reeve?”

“Nothing, really,” he said, shrugging. “Just looking out for you, that’s all“

I couldn’t help but feel a pang of irritation. “Leon has been nothing but helpful and kind. There’s no reason to doubt him.”

Reeve sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Okay, okay. I get it. I just... I worry about you Saoirse.”

“I appreciate that, but i can take care of myself,” i replied firmly. “Leon and i are friends, and he’s been a great support.”

After a while, Reeve left the café, promising to catch up again soon. I returned to the counter, feeling a mix of frustration and confusion. Leon glanced up as i approached, his expression concerned.

“Everything okay?” he asked

I nodded, forcing a smile. “Yeah, just a little... tense.”

“Mukhang ang protective ni Reeve sayo,” Leon observed, his tone neutral.

“Oo nga,” i admitted. “Matagal na kasi kaming magkaibigan. He just... he worried about me.”

Leon gave me a small nod. “I understand.”

The rest of the day passed uneventfully, but the tension from the morning still weighed on my mind. As we closed up the café, Leon walked me to my apartment, as he often did.

“Thanks for today,” i said as we reached my door. “And for understanding about Reeve.”

“Of course,” Leon replied, his smile warm.

I looked at him, “Goodnight, Leon.”

“Goodnight, Saoirse,” he said, giving me a reassuring nod before i walked away.
