CHAPTER XXXII

WE ARRIVED BACK AT YUJI'S FAMILY HOUSE AFTER A LONG DRIVE.
Choso and I didn't speak for the rest of the drive after our fight and the tension was thick, and it ran through the house.

I couldn't look at Kaori, Yuji couldn't look at me and Choso and I couldn't even look at each other.

I sat in my room avoiding everyone and just used the excuse of unpacking my bag to not have to be downstairs.

I'm calling it my room because Yuji is barely in it anymore.

Truth is, I haven't unpacked my bag and have sat on the bed on my phone the entire time.

Dinner was called down from the lounge and I got up with a groan and dreaded the walk down the stairs to sit at the table with everyone.

Once I arrived downstairs, I noticed that Yuji sat next to his mom opposite my side of the counter and that left me to sit next to Choso.

It was quiet while we ate, and the tension between everyone sitting around the counter was so thick that I could see it.

"So, Choso. When are you playing another hockey match?" Kaori spoke up out of the blue.

"Training starts after the holidays are over. Then we have a match against the sorcerers." he seemed uninterested and picked at his food.

"And Yuki? Are you planning on seeing her now that you're back home?" Kaori mentioned something that wasn't familiar to me.

I watched Choso's eyes widen and he looked panicked.
Kaori had a wicked smile on her face because she knew what she was doing.
And it was affecting me.

I slightly kicked Choso's leg without anyone else noticing to make him respond.

"Uh...Yuki and I aren't speaking right now." he sounded caught off guard and stressed.

"Why not? She was so lovely." Kaori kept pushing, and I fought so hard internally to keep composure.

"Can we not talk about this right now?" Choso sounded irritated and that made Kaori satisfied.

Choso rubbed his leg against mine, to almost try and ease the situation.

"Alright then." she had a snarky pout on her face.

Everyone went quiet again, and every thought raced through my head.

Who is Yuki?
Was that his girlfriend?
The girlfriend he told Yuji that he had to cover up for us.
The girlfriend Choso told me he didn't have.
And I let it slide even though I didn't believe him.
Is Kaori bringing this up because she knows about us?
Kaori is definitely pulling some strings.

I felt sick, I could barely chew my food.

My food turned into acid in my mouth, and when I would try to swallow it, it would come right back to where it came from.

Yuji didn't even react to anything, he just held his head down and ate in his own peace.
However, I know that peace is the last thing that Yuji is experiencing right now.

I've ruined it all.

I HAVE RUINED MY BEST FRIEND.
