After Manuel Quezon, along with his family, fled to America, only Sergio Osmeña remained behind.
"Is Quezon too cowardly to fight the Japanese?" said one citizen. "Why does it seem like he's asking for milk from his mother?" said another person. "HAHAHAHA, Quezon's mind has gone dull."
On the other hand, in the town of Iloilo, there was a man who dreamed of becoming a soldier. His name was Jose Calugas.
"Father, I am going to join the Philippine military," said Jose.
"Jose, what you're saying is dangerous. It’s difficult to fight the Japanese forces now. Are you joking?" replied his father.
"But Father, I need to defend our country with honor. I will fight the Japanese."
"Just listen to what I'm saying, Jose."
"I will still join. I will defend our country and our nationality. That is what a true patriot does."
Jose's father could no longer argue and was forced to let him join.
While at the military camp, General Carlos called for Jose.
General Carlos: "What's your name?"
Jose: "Jose Calugas, sir. I want to become a soldier and serve the country."
General: "You're accepted."
General Carlos: "You are the people ready to defend the country. Are you prepared to fight the Japanese forces?"
The group shouted in response, "Yes!"
They completed all their training with hope in their hearts.
