I have calmed down since Kai entered my office. I don't even really know how he managed to do it, but I'm glad for it.
I've yelled at a lot of people this morning, and since I have a meeting with investors coming up soon, which includes Thomas Smith, I'd better keep my cool.
But even though I'm at work, a few minutes away from the meeting, my attention is on something completely different. Kai, who has been passionately talking for several minutes about the food that will be served at the charity party, is something different.
It was a good idea to suggest that he take care of the menu.
"...I don't care that caviar is considered an expensive delicacy enjoyed by old people, there's no way I'm going to include it, that's my condition. Anything, just that. Burgundy snails, truffles, foie gras, you name it, but not caviar." He pointed his finger at me, a serious expression on his face.
"All right." I lowered my head, trying to hide the smile on my face. I don't think I've ever seen Kai talk so passionately about anything. "No caviar."
"Thank you." He exhaled and leaned back against the couch, the empty containers on the table in front of him.
"Oh, and by the way, I'm going to Germany at the end of this week." I mentioned to keep the conversation going.
"Do you think now is a good time for a vacation?" He smiled, joking.
"We have a problem with the cooks."
"Okay? What does the CEO have to do with that? Don't you have people who take care of such things? You have hundreds of hotels, you can't visit every one of them for any little thing."
"It's not just about that." I exhaled hard. "That hotel is not doing well. I was thinking about upgrading it, but it seems pointless. Now I'm thinking about selling it."
"But you want to make sure it's the right decision before you sell it?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Logically, that's the right decision. The hotel doesn't earn as much as it used to, the employees are leaving one after the other, and the money that would have been invested in it would not be returned to us."
"But?"
"But the hotel still has over two hundred employees who would end up without a job if I sold it.
"You have a buyer yet?" He frowned.
I nodded slowly. "He wants to demolish the hotel and build offices there. He offered a really big sum, almost too much. I talked to Roger, who is the representative of the hotel, about what can be changed to make the hotel successful. They need money, but I can't give it to them with a clear conscience when I know that the hotel won't make enough profit. I can't take that risk."
I can't take that risk mainly because I want part of the profits from the hotels to go to various charities. If I put more money into a hotel in Germany, I would be digging my own grave.
