"So, Mr. Acker." I looked up from my food to Adrianna sitting across from me, her elbows on the table and her hands under her chin.
"Yes, Miss Keller?" I raised an eyebrow, giving her my full attention.
"What do you say about Tenerife?"
"I haven't seen much of it yet," I reached for my glass of wine, "but I like it here so far." I took a sip.
"Tomorrow I'll take you to the seaside and we can go into town. When we used to go here, there was always a fresh fruit and vegetable market. Also a couple of souvenir shops if you want some."
"You already have it planned out like this?" I asked surprised.
"Mhm." She smiled proudly. "There is also one place I want to show you."
"Will you tell me what that place is?"
"Nope." She shook her head. "It's a surprise. You'll have to trust me."
"Well then, Miss Keller." I bowed my head, trying to hide my smile that I hadn't been able to get rid of since we arrived. Correction, I can't get rid of him while I'm with her.
"I can't believe I'm in Tenerife again." She was looking at the sea, which we had a great view of from the terrace. "After my mom died, I didn't think I'd ever come here again." She smiled, but I knew her well enough to know that she was sad.
"You miss her." I acknowledged.
"Always." She sighed heavily. "Even though she wasn't perfect, she was still my mom."
"What was her name?" I knew the answer. I knew everything about her, but not from Adrianna.
"Esmeralda Antonia Díaz-Keller." She placed the cutlery on the plate and reached for her wine. "Everyone called her Esme."
"Was she like señora Ramos?"
"Oh yeah." She laughed. "They were awfully alike. They grew up together before señora Ramos moved here. Then Mom met Dad and followed him to America. After some time she returned to Spain and after visiting this island she fell in love with it so much that she convinced Dad to have a hotel here. He would give her the world, so of course, he agreed. That's how Señora Ramos fell in love with the manager she's married to right now. I haven't seen either of them since my mother's funeral. We lost contact."
I could see on her face that she was sorry, even though she tried to hide it.
"They never had any children, so me and Clara are the closest they have to one."
"Always the over-achiever. One set of parents isn't enough, is it?" I tried to lighten the mood and it worked as she laughed.
"Did you have someone like them while growing up?" She asked cautiously.
"Not at all." I shook my head. "We've only ever had Killian."
Adrianna reached across the table and intertwined her fingers with mine. "Killian is a good brother."
