I've been off since last night with Kai. Everything was fine, we started talking like before, as if he hadn't been avoiding me for the past few days. It was like he had a switch in him and flipped something yesterday, returning to the person I knew.
But despite how well the evening went, it didn't end that way. At least from my point of view.
"I have to take this," he pointed to the phone that was ringing in his hand, "sit on the couch, I'll be right back." He pointed to the couch and I nodded before he stood up from the table and started walking towards a room where he shut himself.
I pushed myself away from the table, stood up with wine in hand and went to sit on the couch. I put my wine on the table and my ass hit the soft seat. I put my hands to my sides in an attempt to move a little further, but when I felt something sharp on my palm, I hissed in pain.
"What the..." I frowned and traced the red dot on my palm. I lowered my gaze to the couch and smoothed over the place where the two parts joined, looking for the cause of my small injury. I carefully put my hand between the couch and felt a small object, which I immediately pulled out.
I was surprised to find that it was an earring. Women's earring.

I think I know why he has been keeping his distance from me these past few days.
"Adrianna, are you listening to me?" Nicole's voice brought me out of my memories.
"Huh?" I moved my gaze from the room to her.
"I said that the security will try to keep the public and photographers away from the guests at the entrance, but we know very well that we cannot forbid them to look or take pictures."
"That's fine, no one gets in without an invitation. But speaking of pictures, how about our photographer, is he here yet?"
Nicole looked down at her tablet. "He came in a few minutes ago so he could check out the space and get everything ready for the evening."
"That's good." I nodded. "You should go home and get ready, everyone's going to be here in a little while."
"Don't be nervous." Her hand landed on my forearm. "Everything will turn out well." She smiled. "I'll see you in a bit."
"Bye." I gave her a narrow smile.
Nicole turned on the spot and walked towards the exit where she almost collided with Kai. They exchanged quick greetings before she continued away and Kai towards me.
"What are you doing here so early?" I looked at my watch and then back at him. He wore a black suit with a black tie, a white shirt and a white pocket square in the breast pocket, black ankle boots completing his overall look. He was ready for tonight.
"I wanted to see how everything looks here." He stopped a few steps away from me. "And I want to check how they are doing in the kitchen." He smiled. "Shouldn't you go change?" He looked at me. "Or do you plan to attend the event in this?"
