Chapter 11: Daddy's home
Being the mom friend was actually a secret route to being a dad.
Hell, everything was going to hell. The original quarter-baked plan was to get to a safer space and explain what was happening without anyone panicking.
Well, that plan was in the dumps now. The moment Taylor noticed those things below them, most of the group was frozen in place, but the longer they stayed in place, the closer those things got. But now that their presence was known, they couldn't afford to lose much more time. They had to be quick. Unless they want to find out what would happen if one of them kicked the bucket and found out.
Until Ashlyn tugged on Vera's jacket. "Go ahead."
But before Vera could protest, Ashlyn spoke up once again, now holding some type of tie—probably the garter from her shirt. Dangling in her hands right in Vera's face. "I'm going to tie this to that pole." Vera stared at her best friend for a few seconds. "It's going to be enough for Ben and me to make a run for it."
"Yeah like that's gonna keep it clos—"
Quick and a tad bit too harshly, Vera grabbed onto the collar of Tyler's shirt. Pushing him to move faster. "Move."
"Just run!" And with those words, the hoard was moving towards them. Vera just prayed to Lady Luck that it would really buy them some time.

The next thing they knew was the door locking and being barricaded by any item they could find in their vicinity. Mostly a couch.
The banging noise on the door had stopped by now, but it didn't stop any of them from being shaken up immensely by the situation.
Vera was at the current moment figuring out what to do in the long term. Though she's watched various apocalyptic-filled movies, she was never ready for what was to come of it if it happened in real life.
No one was ready for this change in their life.
Her mood was already at an all-time low by now but it wasn't going to stop her from thinking and preparing a plan for everything by now. Food, weaponry, shelter, etc.

Till her thoughts were intruded on by a chuckle from a fake blonde man seemingly thrilled by the moment at hand.
"Why are you laughing this time?" Tyler was exhausted and frankly terrified and exasperated right now. Hearing laughter coming from Aiden wasn't going to help anyone, especially Tyler of all people.
"It's like we're in a zombie movie."
"No shit sherlo—" His words were stopped by a sharp hit to the chest by his twin sister. He looked at his twin breaking eye contact with the fake blonde but his eyes were still filled with conflicted feelings.
"None of what is happening is funny Taylor. Somehow we have to drill it home to this guy." Once again Tyler looked at Aiden pointing at him. "This isn't funny."
"Okay break it up, break it up." After those words, a sigh came out of Vera's mouth. "We figure this out first then we chew each other out later when this is all over. Permanently." Vera could only hope the frustration would die down by then. And once again Vera sighed and buried her head in her hands.
"Hey." Ashlyn could only mutter out and try to say in the most comforting way possible. But it offered little to no comfort when Vera saw Ashlyn's arm that was swollen up earlier having scratch marks. Immediately she grabbed her best friend's arm and inspected it.
