"Jiminnnnn!!!!, you little cheat! There's no way you got that headshot!" Jungkook's voice boomed through the mansion, his face a mix of fury and disbelief. He pointed at the screen as if it had personally wronged him.
"Headshot? More like dead shot!" Jimin cackled, leaning back in his chair and raising his arms triumphantly. "Just admit it, Kookie, you can't handle my skills!"
Jungkook's eyes narrowed. "Skills? You must be joking. You're using hacks, I swear! How do you always know where I am?"
I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of my chair. "Guys, you're both just terrible."
"Excuse you, Taehyungii Hyung," Jungkook snapped, pointing a finger at me now. "Don't think you're any better. Last round you got stuck in a corner for ten minutes!"
Jimin snorted, his laughter infectious. "Yeah, Tae, you were like, 'Guys, help, I can't move!'"
I rolled my eyes, still grinning. "Alright, alright. You two need to chill before someone gets hurt. I need some air."
As I grabbed my jacket and headed out, their voices followed me. "Don't think you're off the hook, Jimin!" Jungkook yelled. "I'm coming for you next round!"
"Bring it on, loser!" Jimin shot back, his laughter echoing through the hall.
Stepping outside, I took a deep breath of the cool evening air, their hilarious argument still ringing in my ears. Moments like these were a reminder that despite the heavy cloud of mystery and danger hanging over us, we could still find joy and laughter in each other's company. My steps were instinctive as I made my way to the pond. It had become my sanctuary in this strange place, a spot where I could think and unwind. The pond was beautiful at sunset, the lamps casting a soft glow over the water, creating a magical atmosphere. But tonight, something was different. As I approached, I sensed a presence.
Venom was there, her silhouette stark against the fading light. She stood by the water's edge, still and silent, her figure reflecting in the rippling water. Despite the calm setting, there was an air of tension around her, a quiet intensity that made me hesitate.
I took a deep breath and walked over, my footsteps crunching on the gravel path. She didn't turn, but I knew she was aware of me. I stopped a little distance away, feeling awkward and unsure.
"We never did a proper introduction," I began, my voice sounding louder than I intended in the stillness. "I'm Kim Taehyung."
She remained silent, her gaze fixed on the horizon. The air between us felt heavy, charged with unspoken words and unanswered questions. So many questions swirled in my mind, questions I didn't dare voice out loud: Why had Korean intelligence sent us here? Who was she, really? And why was this place so mysterious, so perfectly off the radar?
I tried again. "Won't you introduce yourself?" I asked, hoping to break through her icy demeanor.
She finally looked at me, her eyes cold and unreadable. "Venom," she said simply, her voice devoid of emotion.
I swallowed, feeling a strange mix of frustration and curiosity. "Is that your real name?"
Her silence was answer enough. I shifted uncomfortably, trying to find the right words. "Why are you here? With us, I mean."
She glanced at me, her expression a mask of indifference. "To keep you safe."
Her terse reply did little to satisfy my curiosity. I couldn't help but think about how everyone in the mansion got stiff and respectful when she walked by. What kind of power did this small, distant woman wield?
"But why? Who are you, really?" I wanted to ask, but I held back. I didn't want to push too hard.
I frowned, not wanting to give up. "Why do you push everyone away?"This time, her gaze was sharp, almost a glare. "Because it's necessary."
Her words were like a wall, impenetrable and final. I felt a pang of frustration, my questions piling up with no answers in sight. I took a deep breath and decided to try a different approach. "You know," I said, my voice softening, "sometimes strength comes from letting others in, not just keeping them out."
She looked at me, truly looked at me, for the first time. Her eyes seemed to be searching for something, a hint of vulnerability or truth. It was a moment where the air felt heavy with the weight of unspoken emotions. Then, a sudden thunderclap shattered the silence, and I saw it-a flash of something in her eyes, a darkness that wasn't there before. Her body trembled slightly, an almost imperceptible shiver that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been so focused on her.
Another crack of thunder followed, accompanied by a streak of lightning that lit up the pond. I couldn't shake the feeling that she was scared of the storm, a fear hidden behind her steely exterior. Was this the same fear I'd seen in her before, masked so perfectly?
Without answering me, she turned and walked away, her movements swift and purposeful, like she was trying to escape an invisible fire. I watched her retreating figure, the questions in my mind multiplying. Who was she, really? And what kind of past haunted her so deeply that even the thunder could provoke such a reaction?
Inside, the atmosphere was still lively with my friends' game continuing. Jungkook was jumping up and down, loudly celebrating a particularly tricky combo move he'd just nailed. Jimin, on the other hand, was pouting dramatically, swearing revenge in the next round. As I rejoined them, Jimin looked up at me, his eyes narrowing suspiciously. "Where'd you go, Taehyung? Plotting secret strategies with the enemy?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Nah, just went for some fresh air. Needed a break from all the screaming and chaos in here." I plopped down on the couch, dodging a playful shove from Jungkook.
"Sure, sure," Jimin teased, "Just admit you can't handle my superior gaming skills."
"Right," I laughed, "It was definitely the terrifying prospect of losing to you again that drove me outside."
But even as I was bantered with my friends, my mind kept drifting back to Venom. The mysterious woman who seemed to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders-and who was apparently not a fan of thunderstorms. As Jungkook dramatically narrated his latest victory, I couldn't help but wonder just what kind of secrets she held and why they were so crucial to our safety.
