alexandre von lichtenwald, heir to the vyltiana duchy, and captain of the imperial flagship of asdonia looked mightily annoyed at present, why because he was at the royal ball, an event he has done everything in his power to avoid

"captain, it's not that bad" matthius said

"that's because your fiance is an officer, under my command" i said, he gave a small smile at that, that was until he saw his superiors evil smile

"speaking of, i wonder if i need to have a word with her" i said

"no sir, that isn't necessary, in fact, it's quite rude of me to leave her alone like this i shall go find her" matthius said, coming up with an excuse to make a quick retreat, i chuckled

"so easy, jessica definitely has that bastard by the balls" i muttered in an envious tone, the two definitely loved each other,  it was ironic, instead of asking for their respective families for permission, they asked for mine instead, they are both married to their duty, as well as each other

"ah captain, there you are" his majesty said as he walked up, with an unfamiliar woman on his arm, i inwardly grimaced but, outwardly i smiled as i bowed

"your majesty" i said

"come now, you are almost a nephew, call me uncle christophe" he said

"that wouldn't be proper, your majesty" i said, he shook my head

"this is captain celestina astrid regina greenfield, she is the heiress to the firvona duchy, and a captain in the draskona navy, captain greenfield, this is captain alexandre von lichtenwald, heir to the vyltiana duchy, and my most trusted captain in our own navy, he commands the reliant" he said

"the 'invincible' reliant, really, that's you" the woman said

"it is not invincible, it's just very hard to take down, there is no such thing as invincible, but yes, i am he" i said, taking her hand as i kissed it in greeting

"it is a pleasure to meet you, my lady" i said

"you are lying through your teeth, but don't worry i understand your plight" she said

"i am not lying, it is always a pleasure to meet a fellow officer" i said

"maybe, but you find no pleasure in the way we are meeting are you" she asked, i paused

"no, i do not like these balls, they are little more then a waist of time, if i am to be blunt my lady, no offense intended of course your majesty" i said

"i am well aware how you feel about our balls, no harm done, it seems you two have much to talk about i will leave you to it" he said, as he walked away

"there are times, which my loyalty for that man is seriously called into question" i said

"oh" she said

"in a personal sense, i would never actually betray his majesty, i'd first kill myself, he has helped me more then i could name, and my service is simply returning the dept that i owe" i said

"indeed, i was surprised you didn't know of me" she said

"i do not know a majority of my own colleagues in his majesty's navy, i don't particularly listen to gossip, i don't care for it" i said

"that is a fair response, i am known as the undefeated demon, my vessel the thanatos, has never lost an engagement" she said, my eyebrow raised

"and how many engagements were you apart of" i asked

"well, i have served in three campaigns, and thirty-four skirmishes throughout, my few years in service" she said

"were those battles, against your fellow nobles" i said

"you know of our nation" she said

"i know it has no leadership, and each fief is it's own nation state, i'm assuming your here, because his majesty is trying to annex your territory into his own" i said

"keyword trying, i assume he is trying to use you to get me to agree, i must say, i can see why, no one understands how you were able to make a battlecruiser so damn unkillable" she said

"my djinn helps significantly" i said

"of course it does, but i know for a fact your djinn is not infallible" she said

"i am also a very skilled tactician, my ship has taken damage, before, i just have a very good crew, which i train myself to my standards, i am in fact in the middle of a training session, when i was called back to attend this colossal joke, fortunately the captain of my dragon force, is a low ranking noble and so wasn't invited, so i could assign him to continue the training while i deal with this joke" i said

"you really don't want to be here do you, i find these balls a waist of time, also but i at least like to make some use of them" she said

"i do my duty, i am captain first, a noble second, that was the bargain i made when my father and his majesty insisted i joined the navy" i said

"you'd be a rider yourself wouldn't you" she asked

"i technically am, but i have yet to find a dragon that is to my standards" i said

"i see, my mount is keeping an eye on my ship, i trust no one else with the task, as the thanatos has been sabotaged many times in the past, even when i am on it" she said, annoyed

"good part about my djinn, sabotaging my ship is rather difficult, when the ship will just fix itself of most internal damages" i said, with a small smirk

"lucky bastard" she said, i smirked

"indeed" i replied
