Amaya
Walking into the castle, it looked as if it was an ancient Roman chapel. The windows had stained glass with different artworks and designs. We stopped in front of a foyer that had two sets of stairs that split into two with staggered chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The pillars that held everything up seemed to have been renovated, but they still gave off the vibe of an old castle.
Lynda stopped in front of me and turned with a grin-eating smile. Lynda and Isabel didn't give me a reason not to trust them but ever since I became part of the world someone has been trying to hurt me or kill me.
"You don't have to be afraid. The smell of fear is basically pouring out of you" Lynda said looking me up and down. I frowned my eyebrows and looked at her as if she was insane, with the question of how someone can smell an emotion.
"Lynda specializes in empathy. She spent years learning to read people" Erica says walking right to me.
"I don't take offense to it, you've been through a lot these past few months. I wouldn't trust new people either," Lynda said. Her voice was so soothing and soft like a fluffy cloud, but it held authority and pride. Like a queen.
"At the end of the hall is a door with people who have been waiting to see you," Lynda says looking down a hall to my left, it was dimly lit looking endless.
I started to walk down the hall to the door, knowing it would be my birth parents in the room. I wondered what they would say, what their reason for giving me up would be, did they know where I was this whole time. The questions kept coming until I got to the door, I stopped before I pulled on the handle. I took a deep breath and told myself "It was now or never".
I pulled the door open and saw a large conference table in the center of the room with floor-to-ceiling windows to the left of me and bookshelves to the right of me. At the opposite end of the room stood a man and woman, they stared at me as if I had just said I could shit out hell fire. The man looked to be the same height as me in a dark blue suit, he had a short fade with salt and pepper hair pieces that ran into his beard, and he had eyes that could hold the world and never let go. He had worry lines that made him look scarier than I wanted to believe he was. Next to him was a woman who was shorter than the man in a soft yellow sundress that made her look like she was made of the sun. Her brown skin looks smooth, and her dazzling hazel eyes matched well with her brown curls.
We stood in silence for what felt like an hour looking at each other, analyzing each other. The woman looked at the man as if telling him something without opening her mouth, the man nodded his head agreeing with the woman's unspoken words. The woman takes a few steps towards me with caution.
"Hello, I'm Anna," she says in a sweet voice that sounds like a melody. She gave me a soft smile.
"This is Christian." We all stared at each other without saying a word. I wanted to say something, anything but I just didn't know what.
'Hey, you gave me up and now I'm here. I spent more than twenty years thinking some random people were my parents but, really I'm a princess.' I thought that might be too harsh for the first meet-up, so I wanted to play it suddenly.
"Shall we sit and t-"
"Why did you give me up"
I was never sudden. Christian looked at me as if he was waiting for me to ask the inevitable question, he stretched out his hand to the table in the middle of the room. I sat across from the two of them, definitely the most awkward parent meeting I've been to.
Anna took a deep breath before she started talking.
"We had just christened Brandon when we found out we were pregnant with you. We had just started to find some peace in the kingdom after we broke down the barriers and started to co-live together when my brother, Victor, started creating mayhem. We had an old friend who could predict the future, some were more accurate than others but the one he gave us about you was....." she didn't finish her thought.
Anna looked away from me as if talking would physically hurt her. Christian brought her closer to him and looked at me ready to finish the rest.
"He told us that you would either destroy the kingdom or help it and that Victor would be the one who challenged you. Victor never liked our plan to combine the lands, he always fought us on the topic. He thought that the witches should rule over the others because no one had been more powerful than witches until..."
Me
I was a mix of two powerful species, the only of my kind. I was created to bring peace to show that the people could live together.
"Once Victor heard about the news he started to do everything in his power to get rid of you. We finally got rid of him the night of your birth, he had done something to progress me to an early labor. He tried to take you away from us, we caught him and sent him away. He tried again when you were almost a year old, that's when we knew we had to hide you."
Taking all of this in was making my mind hurt on levels I never thought were possible.
"So, you dropped me off in a random house because I'm some kind of chosen one?" I asked them, I couldn't even believe the words coming out of my mouth.
"It was the best thing we could have done for you," Christian answered.
They looked defeated and pained by their decision. I wanted to be mad at them, to yell, tell them that they've made my life hard ever since I found this world. I couldn't, they did it for me. So I would have a chance.
Anna grabbed my hand from across the table and gave it a squeeze. I looked up at her and saw the sun shining back at me.
"You're here now. We are together and we will help you navigate through this as much as we can," she said, never letting go of my hand.
