Chapter 4

Darkness descended on Keller Estates. An owl hooted somewhere in the distance from the house, high up in a tree. A lone boat floated down the Savannah River, and inside the mansion, the team busily prepared to communicate with the spirits that haunted the upstairs.
Davis pulled out the three EVP monitors, a PMB (Paranormal Music Box), and 3 K2 meters and ensured they were charging at the docking station set up in the dining room on the table. The plan was to go upstairs at midnight. Vivian had also asked Davis and Emily if they would be willing to sleep in the main bedroom to see if any activity would be detected during the night, and they reluctantly agreed. Vivian said that she felt like it was a prominent hot spot.

The mood was dark and ominous. A veil of threat hung in the air. The sisters had donned their rich dark green velvet cloaks, sat in a circle in the main entryway, and held purple candles in black candle holders.
Gretchen had her daughters lay on pallets on the living room floor, and she sat on the couch. She talked to Emily in a calm and serene voice. Emily sat on the sofa beside her. "I truly hope that this works," Gretchen said fretfully, looking at Stephan and Vivian as they walked around the living room with eyes closed, trying to calm themselves before they tried to communicate.
Emily looked at her.

"I have seen things you would not believe last year when Vivian cleansed the Hastings House," Emily assured her in a calming tone.

"What did you see?" Gretchen asked. Emily sighed.

"Well, there was the spirit of this furious girl that had been haunting this house for centuries. Her name was Penelope, and Vivian and Bella were able to help her cross over. They are authentic, I can assure you. I was a major skeptic, Gretchen." Emily said with conviction. "I tragically lost my family almost two years ago now, and I was depressed for the longest time, but now that I have seen Vivian work, I know that I will see my babies again one day, which gives me great comfort."
Gretchen looked at her intensely.

"What did you see that makes you feel that way?"
Emily remembered that night in Hasting's house.

"My husband's sister was thrown off the balcony to the first floor by Penelope and died. Penelope had killed many women by throwing them down the stairs. She received horrible mistreatment in life, so she lashed out violently in death." Emily confided. "I can't believe I am saying this. I do not condone murder, but if anyone had a right to return for revenge, it would be Penelope Hastings. She suffered horribly at the hands of her family." Gretchen gaped and held her hand over her mouth.

"Oh my God!"Emily nodded.

"Yeah. It was not enjoyable to see, but then this same spirit picked up Bella and did the same with her. She tossed her over the balcony as if throwing trash into a can, and just as Bella was about to hit the floor, Lainie rose out of her body and rescued her." Again, Gretchen wore a look of astonishment on her face. She shook her head.

"Wow. That is incredible, Emily."

"It gave me much-needed hope. I believe the team will be able to help restore the order of this house and cleanse it of all activity for you and your girls." The confidence is Emily's voice was unmistakable.
Gretchen smiled tremulously.

Midnight arrived, and Vivian called her team together.
They gathered around the dining room table.
Vivian was soft-spoken, and she stood at the head of the table. "Team. We need order in how we do this so I will divide us up again. "I will have Stephan and Clarrisa investigate the study, and Emily will record on the EVP. I will go upstairs with Bella, and Davis will record up there in the master bedroom and the room at the end of the hallway." Vivian reached down and picked up three walkie-talkies. "We will communicate with each other through these. If you see any activity, let me know." The team divided and went their separate ways. Vivian headed up the stairs with Bella and Davis at the rear. They stopped at the head of the steps, and Vivian turned to Davis. "Davis, please start recording." Vivian's instructions we in a clear tone.
Davis nodded and took the EVP monitor out of his bag. He turned it on, and three tiny red lights lit up on the front of the device. "When a spirit communicates with us, the lights will turn yellow to indicate that it has responded to us," Vivian said. She then continued. "Speak in normal tones, and don't whisper. We will communicate in our normal voices."
