I shouldn't have held her hand.

But she was sat there in my car looking all scared and vulnerable, what was I supposed to do,
Let her cry it out while I drove home? That wouldn't have been annoying at all. I only did it so she wouldn't have a breakdown, her dad would kill me.

Her rushed footsteps follow me into the entrance of my apartment building and I slow down to let her catch up.

"Hey Don!" She shouts at the doorman whose name I didn't even know, why is she so fucking friendly, that's how you end up with a stalker. I get in the elevator and press the top floor button while she stops to help a young girl find reception.  She trips over herself getting to me when she hears the elevator ping and the doors begin to close.

"I was not made for running I'll tell you that now" she puffs and bend over with her hands on her thighs, her skirt hitching up her tanned legs.

"I can see that" she half glares at me and stands upright beginning to hum a tune I don't know.

"Stop that" she doesn't

"Stop" this girl doesn't listen to a word I say.

"Have you ever thought about why we don't all just fall off the earth?" What the fuck?

"No"

"Oh, that's awkward because I think about that all the time, we're a big floating rock in space and we just stick to the floor, crazy right?" Not really

I grunt and she goes back to humming her stupid song, the doors open and she skips out into the pent house. I follow her out and chuck my keys on the side while checking my emails.

"Alfredo or pesto?" She asks me while wondering around getting pans out the cupboards.

"Don't care" I hate Alfredo.

"Pesto it is then!" She chides and grabs some basil I didn't know I had out of the fridge.

"Where did that come from?" She looks at me quizzically and holds up the basil.

"Yeah that" I confirm

"I went shopping"

"you went shopping?"

"Sure did boyo, your fridge was very empty and like I always say an empty fridge means an empty and unfulfilled life" she rattles off while putting some pasta in a pot of boiling water.

"I've never heard you say that clover" she pauses and shrugs.

"You're right I just made it up on the spot, it was good though huh?" No

"Mhmm" I hum absentmindedly and head over to the stools where my laptop is. I sit down and open it up to get some paperwork done for ace while she rambles on about some new club she wants to go to.

"...anyways I've got a date with a guy I met at the gym the other day and I have no idea what to wear! I've got nothing" I stop typing and look over to her.

"You've got a what?"

"A date" she rocks back and forth on her ankles and chews her lip nervously. "Don't tell my dad or brothers, they won't let me go" she silently begs me with her eyes and I nod.

A feeling I'm unfamiliar with creeps into my chest and I clear my throat.

"So who is this guy?" I ask and she relaxes a bit.

"He's called Andrew-" I scoff at the name and she glares at me. Andrew that's such a dick face name.

"Do you want to say something mister?" She says calmly and I shake my head lightly.
