I look down at my sparkly pink heels with glittery bows and grin, I love these shoes. I quickly check my hair in the mirror and rush out my room. No time to waste, I have a date to get to with Andrew the accountant from the gym. I'm kind of nervous, I hope he's a nice guy, he seems nice enough when I see him working out. His hot bod is certainly nice enough-
"That's a shit ton of pink" I stop my inner monologue and look up to chase who's in the middle of undoing his tie, his white dress shirt clings to him like a second skin and his hair is ruffled like he just got out of bed. Stop.
"I love a helluva lot of pink" I reply and side step past him as he watches me intently. I wonder what he's thinking, he's always got this unreadable expression that I can never quite understand.
"Where are you going?" He tilts his head at me and pins me with his gaze, I gulp slightly and square my shoulders. My pale pink sundress hugs my waist and has a little bow at the top by my boobs, it's so pretty. Side tracked. Anyway.
"I'm going to the....aquarium to buy a turtle" what? Why did I lie? He already knows I'm going on the date, now I've just made it a thing by lying. Oh jinkies, I'm hot, it's hot in this room.
"Right" he drawls and an almost unnoticeable smirk lifts his lips.
"What type of turtle where you thinking of buying" he says, acting interested. What a loser.
"A...green one, with lots of shell" nice, I internally smack myself on the head. Why am I not making a coherent sentence.
"So much shell" oh my god shut up mouth
"I want a turtle with so much shell it's barely got anything else going on" I could smack myself.
"Mhmm" he hums absentmindedly and looks at me like I've grown another head.
"be safe and call me if anything happens" I almost do a double take. He's letting me go out, alone, without anyone else when there's a stalker after me. What?
Instead of standing and waiting for him to change his mind I hightail it out the pent house, calling out a brief goodbye, I have a feeling chase sitting next to me for the whole date would put Andrew off a tad.
The restaurant we decided to meet at is only a 15 minute walk away and it's relatively light out still. My heels click along the sidewalk and I hum to myself. I wonder if bugs fall in love? That would be so freaking adorable, can you even imagine a butterfly and a butterfly in love. Sweet.
I stop to turn a ladybug over as it's in its back and carry on down the sidewalk. I check my phone. He said 8:00 and it's currently 7:48. Yeah man. I high five myself internally for being on time and spend the rest of the walk trying not to work up a sweat.
I arrive at 8:00 on the dot and smile and wave at Andrew who is waiting for me at a table through the window of the sweet little Italian restaurant. I step inside and breathe in the smell of freshly cooked food, I miss my mum.
The atmosphere is warm and cozy with a soft glow of orange light bathing the large but comfortable room. Red booths line the walls and smaller wooden tables are scattered throughout the seating area.
Andrew sits on a wooden table close to the window and gets up as I approach. He pulls my chair out for me and greets me with a kiss on the cheek. Such a sweetie. I settle down into the chair as he sits opposite me. We get into a light conversation about his work recently and what he's been up to, it's easy and slow but I can't help feeling like there's something missing.
