A Change

The watchtower seemed unusually peaceful. The reason probably was that Batman wasn't yet there.

The Flash ate snack, sending his gaze to the zetas every now and then. If Batman saw him now, he would be dead meat.

Superman had his Sun pendant in his hand and was gazing at it intently as he sat at the table. He couldn't help but think about how Bruce had called him the Sunshine of his World. The guy was really flirty. Neverthless, it assured Clark that he meant something to him.

"A gift, Superman?" Green Lantern asked as he leaned against the table beside him.

"Yeah" Superman smiled.

"From your girlfriend!?" Flash was literally vibrating and Superman burst out into laughter.

"No, no. It's from a friend" he smiled, "The best I have".

"It looks marvellous!" Wonder Woman commented, taking a closer look. She thought it really suited the Man of steel. She was about to tell him that, but the AI announced Batman's arrival and everyone visibly jumped.

It didn't take Batman much time to reach the table where everyone was gathered. The Flash panicked and gulped down everything he had in one go. "Flash. What do you--", Batman started but his eyes caught sight of the shining pendant in Superman's hand.

S  uperman thought he saw the muscles of Batman's face loosen. Batman looked dumbstruck and Superman was amused. He let out a scoff. "Well, unlike you, some of us could afford to have friends - a term you most probably aren't familiar with"

Everyone felt a chill run down their spines and they were all ready to feel the wrath of the Bat. Even Superman bit his tongue.

But surprisingly enough, Batman just expressionlessly proceeded with the JL meeting. Superman had expected a glare to be sent his way for the least.

It was strange. Superman felt as if Batman had become less arrogant towards him since that day. He never bothered to yell at him when he tried going off on his own while they were in a mission. Even when he did yell at him, Superman felt as if his tone had softened a bit. But he was still the prock he was. He still acted as if he owned the place and walked around like a blood-deprived vampire.
