Mirabel
The question that I always dreaded was asked. 'Where am I from'. I had been asking this from myself when I was six. I had been forced to believe my parents abandoned me and Mr. Benjamin and Miss. Cora was our rescuer but it was a deceitful lie. They were never homely. Everything about them screamed of danger and evil. The way they kept disappearing my fellows, I knew this was not where I belonged, I had to leave.
"Mirabel?" I jolted out of my trance the moment he placed a hand on my shoulder. For some reason he didn't seem a threat. His eyes shone in a unique way that conveyed me I could test him. If he wanted to hurt me, he wouldn't have taken me here and helped me get better. "Are you okay?" He asked ever so kindly. I smiled as his softness was healing my broken heart that he didn't break. Nodding at him, I turned back to the sunrise scenery, closed my eyes and sucked a long breath. Was this how peace felt like?
As I opened my eyes, alarmed, a fresh set of tears were glossing my eyes. I blinked to keep them from falling. I didn't have to turn his way to know he was looking at me. His gaze was intensely fixated and I inwardly quivered. "I don't want this to end, I don't want to go back," Words fell out of my mouth of their own accord but they were barely audible.
"Did someone hurt you, little one?" I swallowed the lump of my throat and glanced at him, surprised at his hearing range. There was a sterner look residing in his eyes that steeled my back. He looked as if his anger was loading up in his muscle along with his clenched jaw and prominent veins. His chest also started to heave. I was left baffled and scared.
"I asked you a question, did anyone hurt you out there?" His grim demeanour was striking terror into my veins. His eyes began glowing in an odd manner. I stepped back as he turned his body toward me. My tongue froze to speak a word but I managed to lie through shaking my head.
He kept staring at me but his eyes morphed softer, perhaps because he could see me cowering. He stepped forward to fill the distance between us and bent to my level, considering I was reaching hardly his mid-chest. "I have no intention to scare you, Mirabel, but I need you to be honest with me. And I understand how hard it is to trust someone especially if you are abused by one. Now why am I saying this is because I feel like you are afraid of me. I don't like it when innocent people get hurt and I will certainly not let anyone hurt you again. If you don't want to go back to your family, you are welcome here, we will take care of you," He murmured with all honesty glimmering in his crystal greyish eyes. It was intense to a point where I couldn't hold my tear back. How could he be real? He didn't know me and he was ready to take care of me. All my life I trusted people who were cutting our ropes. I wasn't easy on it anymore, but on the other side of my heart, a voice begged to count on him and let him help me. And I had no other option than to try him.
Just as I sensed his hand raising and extending to wipe my scooting tear, the door barged open, startling both of us but only I jolted. He straightened back to his full height and turned around on his heels. "Kat,"
"Alpha, you are here?" There was a hint of question in the woman's tone. I couldn't see her as Maximus was standing in front of me, blocking her view.
"I came down to check up on her, she woke up," He clarified in monotone. I was a little astounded by the sudden change in his countenance.
"But she shouldn't be out of bed this soon. She is human and it takes t..." Suddenly she dropped speaking as she lunged forward to expose herself. She was under my sight range, staring at Maximus with an aloof look. Brown healthy hair, porcelain complexion, blue eyes and beautiful features. She was also taller than me, at least by four inches.
In a moment or two she shifted her eyes to me and I, subconsciously, felt my back steeling straight with wringing fingers. Her lips tainted with red lipstick stretched into a wholesome smile. "I see you are awake, Hi, my name is Katrina, I am treating you for now," She stepped forward and held her hand out for me to take.
