Mirabel

Maximus' steely gaze pierced through us as if we had been caught having a secret affair. My body instinctively started to cower in front of him. With the way he was cutting Kevin through, it was evident, he had Kevin's breaths numbered in his head. Before I knew anything else, Maximus stomped closer our way, directly at him.

"Alpha," I stepped in the way and placed my hands over his chest to lightly push him back. He wasn't looking at me. His eyes continued to rip Kevin. I could see up close how his chin was wobbling due to simmering rage. He would burst any time and my heart was already fearful of his thunder.

"He was only helping me," I told him earnestly. His eyes shot at me, draining me off of my confidence.

"By holding you close and kissing your eyes?" His tone spewed accusations which he hatefully threw in my face. His flaring nose was clearly displaying his anger but the hurt was transparent in his eyes. I could see he wanted me to defend myself and prove my innocence, but before I could open my mouth to calm his nerves down, the dumb head brought it upon himself.

"Why, Alpha? Feeling jealous? She's just a..."

"No, Alpha...plea..." I couldn't complete the sentence as Maximus leapt by me onto Kevin and delivered him a neck-breaking punch. I screamed upon seeing him stumbling and blood seeping out of his nose. Alpha didn't give him time to reprieve and punched again. This time bringing him on the ground with blood disgorging out of his mouth. I was numb to register my tears wetting my cheeks, my eyes were stuck at the horrifying sight before me. He was cursing and raging on Kevin and was about to punch him for the seventh time when Callum—his beta—came out of the blue and tackled him down. He resisted in Callum's hold. It took four men to keep him on the ground. Meanwhile, Vanessa appeared from the mansion and dashed straight to her mate, screaming and panicking.

He was soaked in his own blood. Vanessa's eyes teared up and a wave of enmity rose in her greyish eyes. I felt terrible, guilty of his misery. She shot Alpha a spiteful glare while holding Kevin's head close to her chest and then her eyes flitted to me. I mumbled her a sorry but she rolled her eyes and helped Kevin to stand and get inside along with Katrina's help.

I was just left there, in the middle, witnessing another punch-ons on the poor guy whose intention was just to help me feel relieved.

Why did he have to act this way?

Vanessa

I wished I could chop Alpha's hand for hurting my mate when I was taking him to the medical ward. But my resentment broke the records when Katrina told me Kevin's nose was broken and ribs were fractured. I was this close to barge into his room and stab him in the heart the way he did mine. What did he do wrong to deserve this? He only joined the pack a few weeks ago. I had him after waiting years for him and today it felt like I was going to lose him. Just because of Alpha's obsession with that spineless bitch.

I never understood what Alpha saw in her to treat her in such a generous way. She was a pathetic crybaby who was lost by her parents God knew when. I never understood the meaning of her existence in the pack actually, she wasn't even a wolf. I only stood close to her only to get good graces from Alpha. Before Kevin I wanted to be Alpha's favourite woman, I was charming him through that smug-face. But ever since I found my counterpart, everything in life became meaningless after him. My world revolved around him, which was why those hurt him would have to pay for every ounce of his wasted blood. I wouldn't spare anyone, not even the Alpha.

I looked outside the window of the medical room. It was past midnight. Turning around, I glanced at my love who was sleeping soundly. A warm smile crept on my face. It was true mates brought peace into our lives, especially after marking each other. I played with his forehead and placed a kiss before leaving the room. It was about time. People needed to reap what they sowed.
