Maximus

"How long will it take you to behave, Gunnolf!?" I was beyond enraged, like seeing red. The way he lost his senses before Mirabel, I could not afford to go back to her if he wouldn't learn to keep his shit together. She was a human, moreover not even an adult. We could not dare to think about her in an obscene way let alone touch her. Her touch was innocent, she didn't mean to provoke us. She didn't even know what her touch did to us but my mad, horny wolf wasn't taking the gravity of the situation seriously. He just wanted to see her, feel her. He promised to control his urges while being around her. But I knew what could happen if he would fail to follow through his words.

It wasn't only about him. I was also entranced by her. It had been hours since I last saw her. I couldn't suppress my desire to see her again. The craving of feeling her around me while I take in her sweet scent was driving me insane. It drove me insane the first time and it would do every time I would be around her. What was she doing to me?

"I promise I will be on my best behaviour as much as possible but please take me to her. I want to feel mate again, you want it too." He whined in my head, putting his head between his paws.

"We can not label her as mate till she is eighteen. You have to understand that, stop calling her mate, it will hurt more if she turns out to be just a human," I reminded him in case he forgot.

"Don't irritate me, Max. After so many years I am feeling alive, don't kill my joy for me. I know she is our mate and I can't wait to find it out one day," Gunnolf hissed out. He had started to tick the clock. His desperation was amusing to me. He never expressed desperation in killing his enemies yet here he was drooling after a girl. My wolf had always been big on self-control. He was a calculative fella. This side of him was new for me and perhaps also for him as well.

"Alpha," I heard a voice outside my study's door. It was my beta's—Callum—men.

"Come in," I commanded in my usual deep voice. The one I didn't show her nor would like to.

They both stood before my desk with hands tied. Felix and Roman were our first-grade warriors. They were known to be unbeatable in the battlefield and I happened never to be disappointed by them. But today seemed like it was going to change, their face exposed something was off.

"Speak," I rumbled.

"It is strange as well as shocking that we couldn't find any information regarding Miss. Rhodes. Felix and his team went till the south and even contacted the officials to gather details about her but no one seems to know her. Her name isn't registered in the public records," Roman revealed, setting an air of uncertainty within the room. How was it possible?

"Did you double check with our informants?" I asked, resting back on my office chair.

"Not even our informants know she exists," And that was something that never happened. Our rats were highly skilled in finding out the skull of a person. This was an alive human we were talking about.

"Not even a clue about her family?" It was impossible. How a girl like her could be unknown to the world. She must have had a family to begin with.

"I checked all families sharing Rhodes surname from the database, she ticks no boxes, there is no evidence of her being born in the town or in other packs' territories," Felix explained. It was above me how could this happen. A nerve ticked in my jaw.

"Search on a bigger scale. If she's not from here or south, probably she is from other states, find out about her even if she is from another country. I need every minute detail about her, and that really includes everything," I stated out as gravely as my voice could sound. That was enough take for them to know how serious I was about this case. I was aware my interest in her could spark some ears but it was bound to happen one day or another.
