Sitting on the head seat, I gestured to the butler to serve. It was still embarrassing to think about the incident that happened last week. All of my pack members stole a glance at me as this was my first time having dinner with them after the incident. Lately, my mood hadn't been much better. My heart was grieving over something mysterious. I would start feeling cold shivers out of the blue. This shit was depressing but I had nothing else but to smoke and drink it out of me.
After so many days I had decided to finally show my face. Hence all the staring.
"Katrina, there are some desserts sent by Robert for you to check," Callum told Kat who just finished eating her food.
She wiped her mouth and replied. "How about we let Alpha decide the chef for us?"
They both eyed at me and I gave her a side-glance, "You used to like desserts," she knew very well how much I started hating them after my mate. I remembered she loved making desserts and making me eat them. I remembered how cooking and baking was like a therapy to her. I remembered everything about her except for her name and identity.
"I don't like them anymore," I answered, deadpanned.
Kat pouted and mind linked me. "As an Alpha, this is your duty to take interest in house affairs, please don't embarrass your position and accept my request for the sake of it," I listened to her and huffed out to grant my approval. She asked the butler to bring the desserts. Callum explained that Robert sent five different desserts made by his top five chefs.
I quietly picked up a fork and scooped the pumpkin pie only to find it average, the flavour wasn't rich enough to impress my taste buds. Same with the chocolate tart, lemon pie and tiramisu. The fourth one was cinnamon rolls. I wasn't willing to eat anymore but Kat's son forced me to share with him.
As I had the bite melting in my mouth, a familiar taste hit my tastebuds, causing me to stare at the dessert. I had eaten these rolls before, the flavour was too close to miss, even when I had it five years ago.
"Who is the chef of these cinnamon rolls," I asked the butler with a straight face.
"The cinnamon rolls were made by a woman chef named Mirabel Rhodes," Butler replied.
"Give her the job, pay whatever she demands," I said without thinking twice. I wouldn't miss a chance to appoint someone who could cook like my mate. This chef reminded me of her.
"But Alpha, we have to call her for an interview," Katrina intervened.
"Let this one pass without an interview. Her dessert was enough proof of her dedication," I said and took another bite to relish the taste.
Fucking heaven.

It had been a week since Sevyn had been suffering from the unknown disease. Doctors had failed to name the disorder. They had no explanation for the seizures that were causing her bones to crack and shift in her body. She would get a fit and then calm down but the pain the cracking brought her would tire her tiny body out. Today was her fourth fit attack. During the time she had it, I was luckily by her side. She cried once the episode went away and that tore me into pieces. If Sophia hadn't left for another city for the restaurant's opening, I would have spent the whole day with my girl.
I had been researching her symptoms. There wasn't much found on the internet but somewhere on a private website, an article was published that described a case similar to Sevi's. It told a story of a five-year-old boy who suffered fits akin to hers. There were videos of him having fits over the internet. My heart broke to see him experiencing the same pain as my daughter. He was termed as a 'Hybrid's Child' by people around him. Once he grew up, he became acting like a creature. On every full moon of each month, he would spend his nights on a tree howl at the moon. His parents were distressed by his abnormal behaviour but above that, the neighbors started bashing them for their son's condition and forced them to leave the area. I googled about the family's current whereabouts but couldn't find any lead on them. My search was still ongoing as they were my only clue and I had to know what happened to the boy.
