The Sauna Test- Chapter 24

"Do you Copy? This is a code red. I repeat, this is a code red." An annoying voice was heard through Max's walkie talkie, waking up the girls. "Max? Do you copy? This is a code red!"

Tired of the voice, the redhead sat down and picked it up. "Shut. up." She turned it off, and laid back down cuddling with Skyler.

"What was that?" Skyler said with a groggy voice.

"Mm- I dunno. I'm tired."

With a sigh and a shrug Skyler went back to sleep, enjoying the company of her girlfriend and her best friend. However, just as she was about to drift off, another noise woke her up. It was the telephone. 

"You've got to be kidding me."

"Great." Sky rolled her eyes, then looked at Max. "Don't worry I got it." She gave Max a quick peck on the cheek, before slowly getting up. She walked towards the phone and picked it up to her ear. "We're sleeping, go away." 

As soon as she was about to  hang up, a voice spoke up. "Sky- this is Mike, don't hang up! Something happened, something bad. Our very lives could be at stake." 

"God Dammit." She sighed, running her hand through her hair.

"Just come to my house. Bring the rest of the party." 

"This is about the upside-down isn't it?" She was dreading everything to finally become real again, for everything to become life or death. 

His breath hitched. "H-huh- how did you know that? Did Will talk to you?" 

"No- I've felt it too- we have some stuff to tell you guys too." Before Mike could say or argue anything, she continued. "We'll be right there."

"What's going on?" Max said, worry in her voice.

"What'd he say?" El continued. 

She looked at them, with a frown. "Let's go."

"I didn't think it was anything at first." Will started. "I mean, I think I just didn't want to believe it." He looked at Skyler, urging her to continue.

She sighed. "Will and I- we uh- we first felt it at Day of the Dead."

"Power went out that night, too." Mike nodded. 

"Then we felt it again at the field near the Nelson farm the next day-." She added. 

"Then again yesterday outside Castle Byers." 

"Guys." Sky interrupted. "There's something else." This caught everyone's attention worriedly looking at her. "That day near the Nelson farm I saw- I don't know like a shit ton of rabid rats all going in one line. Like hundreds, they seemed scared, like they were running away from something or towards something. It didn't seem normal." 

"Rats?" Lucas said confused, she nodded. 

"That- that doesn't make sense why would there be so many of them, you said hundreds of them?" Mike sighed. 

"Yeah- I saw them right after I felt it- the fluttering behind my neck." 

"Shit- I'm sorry." Max spoke up, making everyone turn to her, now confused. Skyler perked her eyebrow up, she was just as confused as the rest of the party. "You told me about it, about the feeling, you knew it was back and I brushed it off." 

"No, Max it's okay-"

"You knew?" Mike said with sass in his voice. "And you didn't say anything? This is life and death you guys! We have to know everything that's going on."
