The Summer I Turned Pretty

"OH, GIRL, IT'S YOUUU that I lie with as the atom bomb locks in." Steven sang from within the shower stall, "Oh, girl it's you!"

Jeremiah quickly spat out the paste that was left in his mouth before joining in with Steven, "Youuuu that I lie with!" He harmonized.

Lemon shook her head as she smiled to herself, listening to her brother and Jeremiah singing and serenading the whole beach house.

"Night swim, girls?" Laurel questioned, eyes glued to the bright screen of her phone.

"Yeah, night swim." Belly nodded.

"Hey," Laurel called out for the girls as they then stopped in their trek, "how many is a lot of followers on instagram?" She asked curiously.

Belly glanced at her twin who shrugged in response before looking back at their mom, "Uh, is it somebody who's verified or not verified?"

Laurel paused, "What's verified?"

Lemon couldn't help the snort that she let out as she walked towards her mom, "Come on, ma. Lemme see."

Lemon slightly crouched to look at who her mom was looking at before taking the phone into her grasp, "Oh, dude, Bells, wasn't Taylor's dad reading this guys book?" She called for her twin who was by then at her side.

"Oh, yeah." Belly nodded in confirmation, "A hundred and fifty thousand followers is a lot, especially for a writer."

"Okay." Laurel then quickly snatched her phone from her daughters hand.

Belly softly chuckled as Lemon eyed her mom, rolling her eyes as she then followed her sister, finally making it to their stop which was the outside pool.

As the two got closer to the pool, they finally noticed someone was already there.

Conrad.

Lemon eyed the older teen who was smoking a joint, she never thought she'd see Conrad do drugs. He was all for being healthy or whatever she remembered the bs he'd always tell her.

"I thought you said smoking pot changes the way your brain processes information." Belly recalled.

"So does your cell phone." Conrad quickly retorted.

Belly stayed silent, throwing her towel to the side before diving into the pool.

Lemon observed the whole interaction, throwing her towel to the side as well before making her way to the pool, sitting at the edge before sliding herself in slowly.

She felt his eyes on her, watching her as they watched Belly.

Lemon noticed as Belly emerges beside her, a smirk on her face. "You said marijuana messes with white matter." Belly continued, still wanting to hold up with this topic of discussion.

Conrad smiled, "Do you even know what white matter is?"

"You said o-our brains are still developing and that-"
