The Summer I Turned Pretty
"YOU GIRLS NOT GONNA SAY GOODBYE?" Laurel questioned as she glanced at her twins.
"I don't feel like it." Lemon mumbled, her eyes staring blankly into the dashboard. Belly stayed quite but that was enough of an answer from her.
Laurel took a moment to glance away, "She's your best friend, and she came out here on your birthday because she loves you both."
Lemon rolled her eyes slightly as she stared out the window, her eyes practically glaring holes into it before she then let out an annoyed sigh through her nose.
"Fine, I'll say goodbye." Lemon stated, unbuckling herself and opening her door. She wasn't going to wait and see if Belly was going to follow her or not. She just wanted to get this over with.
"Hey." Lemon called out, grabbing Taylor's attention as the girl turned around.
"Hey." Taylor quietly said back.
"Uh," Lemon glanced away, "have a safe trip." mustering up a believable enough smile.
"Thanks." Taylor said, nodding.
"Thanks for coming to our birthday." Belly said from behind Lemon, nearly giving the girl a heart attack as she turned to look at her twin with slightly widened eyes, she didn't expect Belly to follow.
The three girls continued to look at one another before Lemon then made a move to finally leave but was quickly stopped by Taylor.
"Hey, about last night, you'll be happy to know that it'll never happen again." Taylor assured, "Steven said that it was a mistake and we never should've gone there, so...you know, it's whatever."
Lemon stared at Taylor, her face blank as she blinked once, then twice, then a third time. She was still made over Taylor basically spilling her secret and for fucking Shayla over but Taylor was still her best friend, someone she's known since she was a kid.
But this was their first ever real fight, and none of the three girls knew how to deal with it.
Lemon finally opened her mouth as her eyes snapped back to look at Taylor, "Look, I'm not mad. I'm - I'm just disappointed over some things. I need to figure some things out but while I am, I'm just going to pretend like last night never happened."
"Okay." Taylor's eyes flickered as she gave a nodded, knowing this is the closest she'll ever get to some sort of forgiveness.
"I better get going." Taylor gestures towards the bus with her head as she gave the twins a small grin, "Bye."
Lemon silently nodded as she turned away and walked past her sister and towards their car.
As she sat herself into the car, she slammed the car door closed, pulling at her seatbelt with little force as she clicked it in place.
Laurel smiled to herself as she looked at Lemon before her eyes glanced up at the rear-view mirror, watching Belly.
"You know, boys might come and go but a best friend is a once in a lifetime." Laurel spoke, "We have to hold tight to our friendships because we never know what the future will hold."
