The day had taken a turn for the worse when Y/n found herself standing outside of Professor Snape's classroom, running late.

She had dashed through the hallways, her bag bouncing against her side, but she was still going to be late. Taking a deep breath, she pushed the door open and stepped inside.

"Sorry I'm late, Professor," she said, trying to catch her breath.

Snape's eyes flicked up from the desk where he was sorting potions ingredients.

"Not to worry, Miss Malfoy. Bring your books and come join the class."

Relieved, Y/n nodded and hurried to her seat. But just as she was about to sit down, the door opened again, and Mattheo Riddle strolled in, looking as nonchalant as ever.

"Sorry I'm late, Professor," Mattheo drawled, not bothering to hide his smirk.

Snape's eyes narrowed.

"Mr. Riddle, detention after classes today. Grab your books and come join us."

Mattheo's smirk vanished, replaced by a look of indignation.

"That's not fair! Why doesn't she get detention? We literally came in at the same time."

Snape raised an eyebrow, glancing between the two students.

"I suppose you're right. Miss Malfoy, detention after classes today as well."

Draco, seated a few rows ahead, turned to glare at Mattheo.

He shrugged, leaning back in his chair.

"Equality, man. Gotta fight for it nowadays."

Y/n shot Mattheo a furious look.

"What the hell, Riddle? What was that?"

Mattheo just smirked.

"Equality, sweetheart."

Snape cleared his throat, drawing the class's attention back to him.

"Today we will be learning about the Reductor Curse. Does anyone know what it is?"

Y/n raised her hand, eager to make up for her earlier tardiness.

"It's a destructive spell, Professor. It can destroy anything."

"Very well done, Miss Malfoy. Ten points to Slytherin," Snape said, giving her a rare look of approval.

Mattheo leaned over, his voice a low whisper.

"Teacher's pet."

"Shove off, Riddle," Y/n snapped, her patience wearing thin.

Draco turned around, his expression stern.

"You two are acting like children."

Pansy, sitting beside Draco, sighed loudly.

"Can you shut up? I'm trying to listen."

Y/n shot her a grateful look before turning back to Mattheo.

"It's Riddle's fault."

Mattheo shrugged, unbothered.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night."

"That's all for today," Snape announced, closing his book with a snap. "Please make sure to hand your homework in tomorrow morning."
