It was a normal day for Soot. Every day was the same. Boring and long.
Except today he found a new dragon on the throne.
It was a dark brown SkyWing with a gold underbelly and splotches of pink all over their scales. They looked down at Soot. "Hello, General. The queen said I was supposed to watch the throne. I dunno why. I'm a medical assistant."
Soot sighed. "Get off the throne. I'll deal with Skyblaze later."
"Oh..okay." The SkyWing hopped off the throne. "I'm Eagle, by the way."
Soot nodded aimlessly. "General Soot. Have a nice day, Eagle." Eagle nodded and skipped off. Soot sighed, sitting on the throne.
Eagle was organizing their medical supplies, when suddenly a familiar dark orange SkyWing walked in. It was Soot, the general Eagle had seen earlier.
"Hello, General. What can I help you with?"
The SkyWing passed out in Eagle's arms, groaning softly. He looked beaten. Poor thing, Eagle thought. They helped Soot up and rested him on a nearby leaf patch. They began to patch open wounds and try and help Soot as much as they could.
After a bit, Soot woke up. "Ow..everything hurts."
"I bet," Eagle replied. "You looked pretty beaten."
Soot grumbled. "Thanks, I guess."
Eagle smiled. "No problem. What even happened to you?"
Soot sighed. "Wish I could tell you. Wish I could tell anyone."
Eagle looked at the general. "What do you mean? Who's stopping you?"
"Skyblaze."
"Hmm. Well, what's she gotta say 'bout what you say?"
"She controls me."
"'Course she does. She's the queen."
"If only you knew, Eagle."
"Then tell me."
"Fine."
Ever since knowing Soot's story, Eagle swore to protect him. They promised they would get him out of here. They could go live a happy life, together. Just Soot and Eagle, and no evil queens to stop them.
So that's why they left.
Soot and Eagle quickly flew from the palace early that morning, before the sun rose. Soot was hesitant.
"It's better this way," Eagle reassured. "She won't be able to hurt you if you ain't there."
"Y'er right, Eagle," Soot agreed.
"I know. Now cmon. We gotta hurry."
And so they set off. If Skyblaze dared to come find them, Eagle would kill her themselves.
They would do anything to protect Soot.
