Comet and Jacques were flying through the Mud Kingdom. They took the same route as they had when they first travelled to the Sky Kingdom, which Jacques pointed out.
"It's the only way I know how to get to the Sky Kingdom from the Rainforest," Comet laughed.
"Eh, same," Jacques said.
They continued flying, until Jacques stopped in his tracks. Comet, confused, stopped next to Jacques. "What's wrong?"
"Look down." Comet obeyed. "Is that-"
"Cinder, Angel, and Ronin with Soot and another SkyWing?"
"Exactly that."
"Well, only one way to find out."
Comet and Jacques flew down, landing a good distance away from the large group. Comet perked her ears and listened in on the group's conversation.
"All I've done is try and help you, Cinder, and you keep pushing me away!" a male voice spoke. It sounded like Soot.
"I never asked f'er y'er help, or theirs," a deep female voice spoke. That had to have been Cinder.
"Cin, just listen to what he has to say. He hasn't done anything that points to malicious intent yet." That came from a male voice that sounded like Ronin. And only Ronin called Cinder, "Cin."
"Still, I know Soot. I grew up with him."
"You pretend to know everythin' about everyone all the time, Cinder! Y'er not special! Y'er not this all-knowin' dragon that you pretend to be! So stop actin' like you are and actually listen to me!"
Comet could hear a huff. "Whatever. Let's get goin.' Comet and Jacques ain't gon' find themselves."
Comet felt a tug at her heart. Cinder's looking for me? she thought.
She cares about me?
Jacques nudged Comet. "I think now is a good time to reveal ourselves." Comet nodded, and the two of them emerged from their hiding spot.
They were right. Before them stood Cinder, Angel, and Ronin, and across from them were Soot and a dark brown SkyWing with pink spots on their scales.
Ronin turned around and gasped. "3 moons! Cin, look!" He tugged on Cinder's wing, who turned around and smiled. "Well, ain't that a coincidence."
Angel turned around. "What is?" Her eyes lit up as she saw the dragons. "Comet! Jacques!" She ran to Comet and jumped into her arms, hugging her. Comet laughed, wrapping her wings around Angel. "I missed you so much," Comet said to Angel.
Ronin ran to hug Jacques, who accepted the hug. Cinder walked over slowly and nodded to the two dragons. Jacques nodded back, and Comet waved a claw, smiling.
Soot and the other SkyWing walked over beside Cinder. "Well, guess the gang's all here," Soot snorted.
Jacques immediately stalked forward and held up his stinger. Comet gently set down Angel and stood next to Jacques, growling lowly and baring her fangs.
"Jac, Com, it's ok!" Ronin assured. "He's our ally now."
"And how can we trust him after what he did?" Jacques snarled.
Soot sighed. "That's fair. But what if I told you about why I wanna take down Skyblaze, too?"
Comet and Jacques exchanged glances, then both backed down. "Go ahead," Comet said as she turned back to Soot.
Soot sighed. "It all started when I became general..."
