Cinder woke up with a groan. Her chest still hurt. Why?
She then looked down at the leaf and seaweed that patched her stab wound.
Right, she thought.
She sighed, slowly getting up. Angel was still curled up under her wing. She carefully lifted it up, trying not to wake Angel.
Cinder stretched her legs, groaning as her heard her limbs pop. It didn't hurt, it just annoyed her.
Angel slowly opened her eyes, yawning. She looked up at Cinder and curled up next to her leg. Cinder looked down at the fledgling and smiled, brushing Angel lightly with her wing. "How'd you sleep?"
"I slept ok. How about you?"
"Eh. I don't usually sleep that much. Glad y'er awake though. Means we can head out."
Angel got up slowly. "Do you think we'll find them?"
"If I know them, they all found a way to escape, and are tryna find us. It's only a matter of finding them."
"How are you so confident they're not dead?"
"Well, you ain't, and neither am I."
"Well, you would've been if I hadn't found you nearly dead in the river."
Cinder laughed softly. "I know. Thanks f'er that, Ang."
"No problem." Angel smiled.
"Well, cmon, let's get goin'." Angel climbed on top of Cinder's back, and they took to the sky. They searched every single spot they could, but no signs of any of them anywhere.
Cinder began to lose hope. "Where else could they be?"
"Maybe they went to a different kingdom?" Angel suggested.
Cinder smiled. "Y'er smart. That's probably what they did. Well, let's just look around one more time to make absolute sure that they ain't here." She took off again, Angel still on her back.
Cinder then stopped by the cave she and Ronin had used the first time. "Hey, this is where we met!" Angel remarked. Cinder nodded. "Yea. Wonder if y'er brother came back here."
Cinder looked inside of the cave. It had a leaf patch, a bowl of meat, and a scroll. Cinder read the scroll.
I'm sorry I couldn't save you guys. I hope you are all having the best time ever up in the sky. I'll see you soon.
-Ronin
"Moons! Ronin!" Cinder ran out of the cave, terrified Ronin had already killed himself. She frantically searched around, trying to see if she could spot any signs of red and yellow.
"Cin! Over there!" Angel pointed to a white RainWing on the shore.
"Ronin!" Cinder ran to the RainWing, holding them in her arms. "Ronin..I'm so sorry."
"C-Cinder?" the RainWing spoke. Their eyes opened, and it was the same bright blue with a red tint.
"Ronin! Thank the moons y'er alive!" She held Ronin tightly. "Are you ok?"
"Well, does starving yourself count as ok?"
"No, you idiot! What did you do?"
"Well..I'm just really..hungry.." His form then went limp.
"Ronin!" Cinder screamed at the RainWing. "Don't you dare die on me!"
Suddenly, a laugh came from Ronin. His eyes turned red. "We meet again, Cinder."
