Talons landed on the warm sand. Cinder and Soot looked to each other. "Where did you say she was?" Cinder asked.
"This way." Soot led the way, Cinder not too far behind.
"Remember our adventures as dragonets?" Soot asked.
"Yea. When I had to lead you through everythin', 'cause you were too scared to do anythin' I wanted to."
Soot laughed. "Yeah. Well, we're here."
Cinder looked out to where Soot had stopped. It was a secluded beach with very few towels and umbrellas. There were currently only two dragons on the shore.
Cinder held her breath, walking forward. It was time she saw her mother again.
She cleared her throat as she approached the SkyWings. The one standing growled lowly. "Who're you, and what're you doin' here?"
The one lying on the towel looked up, adjusting her sunglasses. "Calm down, Wildfire. I know 'er." The SkyWing sat up, looking up at Cinder. She had fire-red scales, with a dark orange underbelly and a line of gold scales across her body and lips. She took off her sunglasses to reveal her yellow eyes, which matched Cinder's. "Cinder?"
Cinder nodded. "Hello, Mother."
Smoke smiled. "Cinder!" she hugged her daughter, which was a struggle for her height. "Aw, my baby! How are you?"
Cinder hugged Smoke back. "Good, good. I have a wife now. And 3 kids."
Smoke smiled. "You do? Aw, I bet they're wonderful. What's y'er wife's name, dear?"
"Comet. She's the sweetest. You'd love her. I have 2 sons and a daughter. You'd love 'em." Cinder shed a tear.
"Well, I hope to meet 'em soon. And, oh my Moons, is that Soot?"
Cinder's brother walked forward. "Hi, Ma."
Smoke smiled, hugging Soot. "Hi, sweetheart. How're you? Is General stressful f'er you?"
"Yea, but...It's better with Eagle. They're my, uh...my partner."
"Aw, look at you two! My dragonets have grown so much. How's Skyblaze?"
"She's dead," the siblings said in unison.
"Well, that's somethin'. I'm glad. Is Phoenixfire the queen now?"
Soot nodded. "How did you-"
"I know everythin', sweetie."
"Speakin' of, what happened with the whole 'my daughter's a monster' thing?" Cinder asked.
"Dragons change, Cindie. I've learned a lot out here, and I'm willin' to give you a chance. Y'er my daughter."
Cinder smiled. "Thank you. I love you, Ma."
"I love you, too. Now, how about meetin' my grandkids?"
