Emily's POV

"JJ, Emily, you stay here and go through the suspects with Penelope and question the two witnesses who are on their way here.
Reid, you take care of the geographical profile and Rossi and I will drive to the second crime scene again."
As soon as Hotch has finished the meeting, everyone goes back to their tasks and the conference room empties.
JJ and I stay seated.
I place my hand on JJ's thigh to calm her down, but her leg doesn't stop bobbing up and down nervously.
Her eyebrows are drawn together in concern and her mouth is pressed into a thin line, while her thoughts are somewhere else entirely.
As much as I would like to say something calming right now, the unrest is raging inside me like a dark, strong storm.

Penelope had tried to reach both me and JJ, but when we tried to call her back on the way to the police station, we were unsuccessful.
We both immediately had a strange feeling in our stomachs.
If it had been about the case, she would have mentioned it at the beginning of the meeting, but nothing.
Instead, she didn't speak to us directly during the entire meeting, but insisted that she needed our help to check some data.
Penelope knows full well that neither of us is usually much help with that.

So there must be another reason why she wanted to hold us back.
Is it about Y/N?
Has something happened?

Just the thought makes me so nervous that I feel sick.
When Hotch and Rossi have left the room, I pull the laptop closer to us and JJ and I look at Penelope expectantly.

"Hey you two cuties. You look great, as always. Maybe a little tired, but that's probably what it's like when you protect the world from criminals," she trills, but her voice sounds muffled, almost nervous.

Still, it's good to hear Penelope's familiar manner.

"Hey, Penelope. Is everything OK? Why did you want to talk to us?"
I ask her, leaning my shoulder gently against JJ while my hand continues to stroke her bouncing thigh.
"Unfortunately, we didn't hear your call."
JJ murmurs quietly and blushes.
"Aha, I understand, I understand. I'd actually like to hear details, but somehow I don't.
But I'm happy for you." Penelope says with a suggestive grin and sounds like the old cheerful Penelope for a moment.

"But there really is something to talk about. Something not as pleasant as love.
Your little rescued bird called me."
"Y/N?" JJ asks in surprise and nervously grabs my hand under the table.
I entwine my fingers with hers and an uneasy feeling spreads further in my stomach.
"What happened?" I ask, trying not to sound too panicked. Countless scenarios are playing out in my head, one worse than the other.
"I don't know exactly. At first I thought it was a classic pocket call, things like that happen sometimes. It sounded muffled and far away and no one answered. But then I heard someone cursing and I'm pretty sure it was that Katy.  She sounded like a bitch."
Penelope explains, waving a rainbow-colored pen around as if it were a magic wand.

She does that especially when she's nervous.

"She met Katy?" JJ asks, turning pale.
She leans back in her chair and her eyes look at Penelope with concern.
"Yes, I think so. The call was only short and she didn't speak directly to me.
I heard this Katy swearing and cursing and before I understood what was going on, the phone hung up again.
Of course, I immediately set off for your apartment.
But when I got there, there was nothing to see."
Penelope says, sounding no less worried than I feel.
"Y/N wasn't there?" I ask, trying not to be impatient.

I'd like to shake Penelope so she'd tell me what's wrong right away.
Y/N is gone?
Does Katy have her?
What happened?
