The next day, Mia arrived at Roger's office, her stomach churning with a mix of anger and anxiety.
The cold atmosphere of the building only heightened her unease.
She had no idea who to expect or what Roger had planned.

Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door to his office. Inside, she saw a woman wearing a long black coat standing with her back to the door, her silhouette eerily familiar.
Roger was sitting at his desk, a smug expression on his face.

"Roger, this better be worth my time," Amelia said, her voice laced with irritation.

The woman turned around, and Amelia's breath caught in her throat.

It was no one other than Katherine Roberts.
Amelia's mother.

"Mother?" she whispered to the woman with a face she hadn't seen in over a decade.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she struggled to process the sight before her.
"What on earth are you doing here?" a mix of disbelief and anger flooding her voice.
