As soon as Amelia and Autumn stepped outside, Reece pulled up in the parking lot. Without a word, he swiftly walked over to his sister, pulling her into a tight hug.
Autumn didn’t resist; she simply collapsed in his arms, letting the weight of everything she had been holding in fall away. She didn’t say a single word.

Mia stood nearby, watching the siblings. A tear threatened to escape her eye, but she held it back.
Reece, still holding Autumn, glanced back at Mia and whispered, "I’ve got this from here. Thank you for calling, Mia."

Mia nodded with a small smile, but she didn’t linger. Instead of going back into the nursery, she walked quickly toward Charlotte’s car.
The pace of her movements didn’t go unnoticed by Reece, who could see she was holding something back, something heavy.
As he watched her, his concern deepened.

He pulled away from hugging Autumn for a moment. "Aut, what happened?" he asked gently.
Autumn looked up at him, her voice flat. "Mia had a—what she called—a meeting with Father." She paused.

Reece's face tightened with unease. "And?"

Autumn took a deep breath before continuing. "Turns out, the person Mia’s been looking for, her father... has been dead for almost ten years."

Reece’s eyes widened in shock. "But that would mean..."

"Yes, big brother. Father has done it yet again," Autumn said, cutting him off.

Reece began to stutter, trying to process the information. "I-I mean... how? How is Mia holding up?"

Autumn's voice softened as she responded, "To be honest, I couldn’t tell you. She’s been putting on a strong front, being there for me. But... I think she’s far from okay."

Reece, knowing Mia for over two decades, realized that behind her calm exterior, she was likely in a very dark place.
He took a deep breath, the gravity of the situation hitting him hard. Without hesitation, he pulled out his phone, typing a message to Charlotte.

"Char, I've got Autumn now, but I think you should go and talk to Mia.
Best of luck, Reece x"

After sending the message, Reece led Autumn toward his car, his arm still around her shoulders, gently guiding her.
As they drove off, Reece took one last look at Charlotte’s car.
Through the window, he saw Mia, her body shaking as she uncontrollably sobbed into her hands.

His heart ached for her. Mia had been holding herself together for everyone else, but now, sitting alone, her emotions finally crashed over her like a wave.
Reece drove away, hoping that Charlotte would get there in time to pull Mia out of that darkness she was spiraling into.
