8th of July, 2015.

I haven't seen Vegas since Sadie's party. I'd like to say that I was avoiding him. But I'm not. He's avoiding me. It was only until I visited Coles for necessities when I ran into him. Literally.

I was walking like a normal human being, looking at my shopping list and checking the tomato section off of my list. The next stop was spices. I look around me when I see the spices aisle, and make my way towards it. The shops were cold, so I wore a black hoodie and leggings. My light brown hair was falling on my shoulders and back. There were a few other people around me, but not many. I look at the rack of spices and seasonings, and collect the ones I need. When I looked back at the rest of the aisle, all I could see was Vegas, running right at me.
His hair looked like it had its own mind, standing up and flailing round at random spots. He was wearing a dark blue tank top and black tracksuit pants. His eyes widened when he realised I was there. He stumbled on top of me, and we both fell with a thump, a messy pile of clothes and people.

He jumps up quickly. I shortly followed, slower, though. "What the hell are you doing here?" He asked frantically. Why's he so jumpy?

"Shopping. Duh. What's wrong?" I replied.

"Friar and Holt are here. They know it's me and you that trashed their place. They were chasing me, but if they see you-" he looks behind him, where the football players saw us. "Run!"

We both sprint away from the two boys, running around people to get away from them as fast as possible. We need to get out of the store, so I drop my basket of items near a register and run behind Vegas.

What seemed like an hour later, we stopped running. We were at the car park now, ducking behind a Jeep.

Vegas was strangely quiet. He isn't quiet usually. If he isn't talking, he's singing. If he isn't singing, he's humming. But he isn't doing anything. I can't even hear any breaths escape from his mouth. He's just so... silent.

I look at him, but he's looking at everything except for me. At the ground, at the car in front of us, to see if Billy or Callum are looking for us.

"Have you been avoiding me?" It comes out like more of a demand than a question, which isn't what I intended to sound like.

I know he heard me, because his ears twitched when I spoke, and his cheeks turned pink. V sure does blush a lot. Then again, so do I. "No." He answers sternly.

"Don't lie." I say. "You haven't returned any of my calls. I even spoke to Angelo and Sadie and they both said that you act fine with them, but when they talk about me you get all touchy. So why me?" I sound so angry, but I don't want to sound like that. I soften my tone. "I was just worried, okay?"

"Don't be." He snapped.

I hesitate before speaking again, because this is the first time he ever spoke to me in that tone. The tone that practically says "go away, I don't want you to be here".

"We've lost them." I say, standing up. He nods, and gets up with me. I look at him, straight in the eyes. When he finally glances at me, his eyes meet mine as well.

"Is this because of what I said?" I ask. "At Sadie's house?"

He blinks. "I don't know."

I frown. "How don't you know?"

"I don't know." He repeats.

"Do you at least know why you've been avoiding me?"

He looks at the floor. "Yes."

"Why?"

"We need to go, before they find us again."

"Why, Vegas?" I raised my voice, and I don't try to fix it, because I need a proper answer from him, and I feel like our friendship is falling apart because I told him I like him and he probably doesn't like me back and trust me when I say that that is not a good feeling. It feels like my world is being ripped apart. Like Vegas has taken it right when it was getting better and squashed it, and I saw it crumble to pieces and fall between his fingers and onto the ground. And I thought there was a slim chance at him liking me. I'm so naïve.
