Winter's Grandfather P.O.V

I held my phone tightly, staring at the screen as I looked at the message my daughter had sent me. My eyes scanned each word slowly, absorbing the weight of her emotions and the unspoken fears hidden between the lines.

Her message was brief but poignant, each word a dagger to my heart. I could almost hear her voice, trembling with worry, as I read it again and again.

I felt a pang of sadness as I read her dry reply, the lack of warmth and reassurance cutting deeper than I expected. With a heavy sigh, I set the phone down on my desk, the screen dimming as if mirroring my mood.

Suddenly, the faint creak of the office door opening drew my attention. I didn't need to look up to know it was my assistant; I could recognize the familiar shuffle of his footsteps anywhere.

"What news do you have for me today?" I asked, absently twirling the glass in my hands, watching the amber liquid swirl and catch the light.

James hesitated for a moment before speaking, "The footage from the hotel that night mysteriously vanished."

I felt a surge of frustration and grumbled under my breath. "What else?"

"Apparently, the new employee who was on duty that night has disappeared too. He could be a potential lead for us to find Winter."

I slammed the glass down on the table, the sound echoing in the dimly lit room. "That's the same thing you told me two days ago!" I shouted, my voice filled with exasperation.

James flinched and stammered, "I'm sorry, boss."

"Sorry your ass," I snapped, narrowing my eyes at him. "Get out and keep working on it!"James nodded quickly and scurried out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the faint clinking of the ice in my glass.
