Winter sat on the couch, cradling Clarity June. The soft coos and gurgles of the baby brought a sense of peace that Winter had rarely felt in his tumultuous life. He glanced at Ryan who was, smiling as he watched the tender moment between Papa and daughter.

The apartment was a warm haven, filled with the gentle hum of the evening news and the occasional burst of laughter from River and Wyatt in the kitchen. Winter marveled at how much his life had changed since moving in with them. The abuse and terror from his past relationship felt like a distant nightmare, replaced by the love and security he now found in his new family.

Winter had yet to take flight for the first time, so Ryan and Winter were ready to head out for a little while.

"Winter, you okay?" Ryan's voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

Winter looked up, meeting Ryan's concerned gaze. "Yeah, just... thinking."

Ryan stood up and crossed the room, sitting down next to Winter and placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "We don't have to do this tonight if you're not ready."

"No, I need to," Winter replied, determination hardening his voice. "I need to learn how to live with this."

River appeared in the doorway, wiping his hands on a dish towel. "Wyatt and I can look after CJ tonight. You two go and do what you need to."

Winter glanced down at his daughter, her tiny hand clutching his finger, and felt a surge of resolve. He carefully handed her to River, who took her with a gentle smile.

"Thanks, River," Winter said, standing up.

Ryan grabbed the car keys and they headed out, the weight of the evening's task heavy on their shoulders. The drive was quiet, filled with the orange hues of the setting sun casting long shadows on the road. Winter stared out the window, his heart pounding with a mixture of fear and excitement. Ryan reached over, squeezing his hand.

"We'll find a good spot," Ryan said softly. "Somewhere you can feel safe."

After about half an hour, they found a secluded clearing by the edge of a dense forest. The area was peaceful, with only the sounds of crickets and the rustling of leaves in the evening breeze. Winter stepped out of the car, his heart racing.

Ryan squeezed Winter's hand. "You can do this. I believe in you."

Winter took a deep breath, stepping out of the car. He stretched his wings, feeling the weight and the strange new sensations that had become a part of him. The antlers on his head felt heavier than usual, but he was determined to overcome the physical and emotional burden they represented.

Ryan walked around the car and stood in front of Winter, placing his hands on Winter's shoulders. "Look at me," he said gently. Winter's eyes met his, full of uncertainty. "You are the strongest person I know. You survived, and you're going to thrive. I'm right here with you."
