Winter was working a late shift at the cafe where he was employed. The cafe was situated in a unique building with a rooftop area that offered a stunning view of the city, complete with tables, chairs, comfortable seating areas, and fairy lights that bathed the space in a warm glow. Ryan was coming to pick up Winter, and he could see his boyfriend on the roof, so he ascended the metal spiral staircase on the outside of the building.
Winter was finishing up and getting ready to lock up when an unexpected voice chilled him to the bone. He turned around to find Daniel standing there, a sinister grin on his face.
"Daniel," Winter's voice was shaky but defiant. "What are you doing here?"
Daniel stepped closer, his eyes glinting with malice. "I came to see you, Winter?"
"Stay away from me," Winter said, his wings twitching in agitation. "You've done enough damage."
Daniel's expression darkened. "You're ungrateful, Winter. But I can fix that." He moved quickly, grabbing Ryan from behind.
"Let him go!" Winter shouted, panic flooding his veins. His wings unfurled as he watched in horror.
Daniel smirked, pulling Ryan closer to the roof's edge. "Stay back, or he goes over."
Ryan struggled, his eyes locking with Winter's. "Winter, don't let him win."
"Daniel, let him go!" Winter shouted, his voice desperate.
"Stay back, or I'll throw him over," Daniel warned, his grip tightening on Ryan.
Winter's heart raced as he watched in horror. His wings flared, shimmering in the moonlight, and he stepped forward, trying to stay calm. "Daniel, please. Let's talk about this."
Panic surged through Winter, his mind racing. He couldn't lose Ryan. Not now, not ever. "Let him go, Daniel. This has nothing to do with him."
Daniel's laugh was cruel. "Oh, but it does. You see, you need to learn a lesson. And what better way than through the people you love?"
But Daniel's eyes were wild with rage. In one swift motion, he pushed Ryan over the edge. Time seemed to slow as Winter let out a scream he didn't know he could make, a primal, desperate sound that tore through the night.
"Ryan!" Winter cried, leaping off the roof. His wings caught the air as he dove after Ryan, his mind focused solely on saving his boyfriend and the father of their baby. He reached out, his fingers just brushing against Ryan's as they fell.
Without hesitation, Winter ran and leaped off the roof, his wings propelling him forward. The wind roared in his ears as he dove after Ryan, his mind focused solely on saving his boyfriend. He reached out, his fingers brushing against Ryan's, until finally, he managed to grab hold of him.
"I've got you!" Winter cried, wrapping his arms around Ryan and shielding him with his wings. They hit the ground hard, Winter taking the brunt of the impact, rolling to a stop in a tangled heap.
