Sitting on a mountain of clothes in my cramped hostel room, I sighed. Finally, the day had arrived.

“If I end up with front-row seats, it’s your fault, Miss!” Mia hollered, rummaging through her things with her usual flair for chaos.

“What? Wait—” I started, only to be cut off as she shoved me aside, snatched up her shirt, and triumphantly stuffed it into her luggage.

“Mia!” I yelled, glaring at her retreating back as she darted out of the room with a smug grin.

Let me help you catch up.

Hi, I’m Aena Kamran. What’s happening? Oh, nothing much—just the biggest event of the year! Let me explain.

I’m the youngest daughter in my family, currently living in a hostel far away from home. Right now, my roommate and bestie, Mia, and I are packing for Gavendra, the grandest event hosted between Pakistan’s most prestigious universities. It’s a massive competition involving a series of matches, and this year it’s being hosted by Loost University in Karachi. Loost has won the event for four straight years, thanks to their star player… um… what’s his name again? Whatever. He’s famous, but honestly, who cares? Because this time, we are going to win!

The cherry on top? Gavendra is in Karachi—my hometown. I’m beyond excited because I’ll finally get to see my family after eight long months of intense studying here in Islamabad at Nest University. My elder sister also studies at Loost, so it’s a double win for me.

Just then, Soha barged into the room, laughing so hard she could barely stand. She took one look at the chaos and instantly figured out Mia had ditched me because we were running late.

“Need a hand, love?” she teased, picking me up from the mess of clothes. Unfortunately, she stumbled and fell onto the pile, dragging me down with her.

“Oh, darling, I know you’re head over heels for me,” I joked, standing up and helping her to her feet.

“Dream on!” she shot back, smirking as she helped me finish packing.

Minutes later, we bolted downstairs, finding Mia and Lia waving at us from the bus. They had managed to save seats.

“Thank us later!” Lia called out.

“Thank my butt,” I retorted, plopping down beside her while Soha squeezed in next to Mia.

And with that, the bus roared to life, carrying our group of 18 students toward the most anticipated journey of the year.
