"Shuu baby, it's me, Shameer, Shameer Durani," Shameer whispered, thinking Lia would be flattered like other girls, but she was Aena's friend. "WWWHAAA—" she began shouting when, panicked, Shameer decided to play a trick. He pulled her closer, leaning in, though he didn't intend to touch her. It worked; Lia's expression turned shocked as their faces came within inches. "W...what are you—" she stammered before someone pushed the door from the other side, forcing it open. By the time it did, Shameer's lips brushed Lia's forehead. The girl who had pushed the door thought it must be heavy stuff holding it open, so she quickly left.

Lia stared up at Shameer in shock, and he slowly pulled away as their eyes met. Both their faces flushed red, and Shameer immediately stepped back, maintaining distance. "Ah, um, I didn't mean that I wanted..." he stammered, but Lia raised a hand to silence him.

"Stop," she said, and Shameer’s expression turned panicked. It was as though he couldn't bear for Lia to misunderstand him. He stepped closer, trying to explain. "I really didn't mean that. I just panicked that you might shout. I saw it online; girls get quiet like this, I swear," Shameer insisted, like a child trying to justify his actions.

"Really?" Lia raised an eyebrow, and Shameer nodded vigorously.

"Yeah! Seriously, that's why I did it," he replied, somewhat relieved.

"Okay, don't be a giant baby. Tell me why you were here and what you were doing in our room earlier," Lia demanded, crossing her arms and giving him a suspicious look. Shameer realized she must have seen Mahir. He was about to say something when he stopped himself.

"I... I was searching for my friend’s room. You know, the upper floor is for boys; I accidentally came down here. But I promise I didn't take anything—see, I’m still on the stairs," Shameer lied, and Lia narrowed her eyes but seemed convinced.

"Right, right. I’ll take your word for it. Now go," she said, waving him away with an air of finality. Shameer nodded awkwardly, turned, and walked off. As he did, Lia went back to her room, her mind racing from the encounter with Shameer.

"He's cute," she muttered to herself, and Shameer, on the other side, was a mess of blushing and embarrassment. "AGH!" he groaned, kicking his car in frustration as he got in.
