(Fauziya's Struggles)
CHAPTER TWENTY TWO
Ali wakes up to the knock on fauziya's door, when he open his eyes he looks around the bedroom before it finally clicks to him, he gently tap fauziya and she wakes up as confused as he was.
"Someone is at the door."he says and come down from the bed, he glance at the wall clock in the bedroom and sigh, 5:25a.m he sleepover at fauziya's unbelievable he didn't wake up.
"Fauziya."Jessica's voice call and fauziya comes down from the bed while Ali head for the bathroom, she unlock the door and wasn't surprised to see Jessica.
"Good morning."she greets resting her head on the door .
"Ma said you should come,
Please hurry I've been knocking since."
"This early morning?"fauziya says tiredly and Jessica narrates to her that they are going somewhere very early, fauziya told her she's gonna pray first before she head back inside locking the door with a sigh,
She rest her back on the door as she stare at Ali who was praying, she sigh and head to the bathroom, she cannot even believe he slept here, for the first time she sleeps straight throughout the night without waking up, she sit on the edge of the bed and glance at Amal surprise that the girl didn't wake up in the night as she usually does to request for water or just to disturb.
"Won't you pray?"Ali's voice ask and she tear her gaze from her daughter's to him.
"Why didn't you leave yesterday?"she ask standing up and Ali didn't answer her, he stand up and walk to where Fauziya was sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Why?
Didn't you enjoy my company?"he ask with a raise brow and she looks away and stand up.
"Just go please before anyone sees you."fauziya says and walk pass him but Ali grab her hand.
"What happened?"he ask surprise by fauziya fluster mood.
"Nothing, just go."she says and remove her hand from his and head for the bathroom, she slammed the door shut and he heard the lock click, he releases a heavy breath and glance at the wall clock.
He grab his phone from the bed top and exit the bedroom, he wasn't surprised to see so many messages and missed calls from sa'adatu he call his driver to meet him at a nearby cafeteria around before he head there, he would spend every night with Fauziya if that's how a peaceful night sleep felt like, sa'adatu's call came and he releases a baby breath before answering.
"Where did you slept at?"sa'adatu ask and he hissed before he hung up.
He call his best friend and he was on another call so he sigh, he barely arrived the cafeteria the driver comes, he climb and the drive home was a quiet one,
Whenever he's with Fauziya he finds himself at peace, his mood would lighten up and he doesn't think much about his past, she's like that remedy to his misery.
When he arrived home he head straight inside to freshen up he was surprised to see sa'adatu at home but he doesn't ask why.
"Where did you slept at?"she ask and Ali glance at her before heading for the closet not in the mood to speak, fauziya's mood really has taken away his excitement this morning.
"I was at work."he lied and sa'adatu snort.
"I went to your office and they told me you left since yesterday noon."sa'adatu says folding her hand to her chest waiting for reply.
Ali head for the bathroom disinterested, he's not gonna answer sa'adatu's lame tirades.
Putting on her clothes fauziya find herself in an unpleasant mood not that she didn't enjoy Ali's company but she doesn't wanna be the other woman in his life, if he wants her she will wants him to do the right thing, she find herself everyday drawn to him and it scares her a lot that she might end up making stupid sacrifices just for him she doesn't want that, she exit the bedroom just in time Linda walks inside the apartment.
"Get back inside the bedroom."Linda says as fauziya gives her a perplexed look, she head back inside the bedroom with Linda behind her, fauziya looks around the bedroom as she sniff around like a dog while fauziya just stare at her.
"Why is this room scenting like my brother?
Jessica told me that she saw him with you."Linda ask and fauziya's heart accelerated.
"I saw him leaving this morning I was in the kitchen,
Tell me the truth."Linda inquire and fauziya shakes her head.
"I don't know what you are talking about."fauziya denied the accusation.
"Okay,
Since you said so, let's go."Linda gesture and fauziya leaves the bedroom praying silently that Linda shouldn't spot her brother's Reading glasses he left on the bedside.
"What's ya Ali's glasses doing in your bedroom."Linda ask exiting the bedroom.
"I saw it yesterday in the kitchen while cleaning so I took with intention of bringing it to you this morning."fauziya lied and linda nod.
They leave the BQ with linda ranting as fauziya prays silently this day be more profitable than add pressure to her.
She was surprised to see Ali's mum in the kitchen herself she was sitting on a chair while she gives Linda the orders.
"Mummy look,
I found ya Ali's reading glasses in her bedroom and if you will go there the entire place the scent of his perfume lingers around, I swear I saw someone like him this morning."Linda says as Ali's mum glance at fauziya who's staring down.
"Fauziya what is going on between you and my son?"
"Nothing ma."fauziya reply quickly.
"Okay if that is the case,
Idris has been calling me that he likes you,
He's a nice boy, hardworking and everything a woman will want,
Marry him."Ali's mum and fauziya looks up at the woman.
"With due respect ma I'm here to work and I don't love Dr,
I have already told him."fauziya says and Ali's mum stare at fauziya.
"Well then you will leave because you cannot come here and cause problem in my sons life, that's all you people are good at,
Go get your things as we are leaving this morning you will be leaving."Ali's mum says and fauziya stare at the woman, the kitchen door open and everyone looks over, sa'adatu walks in and she storms right toward fauziya landing her two slaps as fauziya looks at her confuse.
"My husband sleepover at your place,
Who do you think you are?
Well whatever charm you use on him you gonna leave this house,
Mummy."sa'adatu call crying and crouch next to her mother in-law who embraces her glaring at fauziya.
"Go and pack your things."Linda says with a triumph smile and Fauziya leaves the kitchen, she doesn't wanna stay however she loves Ali she isn't gonna stood so low just to be with him as it is the only thing perhaps she have with her is her dignity she would rather leave with that.
