The first two weeks of school went by like a blur. During those fourteen days Everly got really close with the two inseparable girls, Diana and Anne.

She found comfort in their presence and enjoyed listening to Anne's thrilling stories, on their daily walks to school. Also, all about Anne's dislike for a boy named Jerry.

Jerry works for the Cuthberts. According to Anne they're treating him better than her and Jerry is rubbing it in her face. But Diana and Everly believe Anne's a tab bit dramatic when it comes to things like this.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Blythe hasn't been able to stop making small talk with Everly. At every chance, Gilbert's takes it. Even though Everly responds sarcastically or ends up making fun of him in their little conversations, he end up enjoying them a lot more than she thinks.

"All we are trying to say is-" Josie, Ruby, and Tillie decided to confront Everly after school. The three girls blocked Everly's way as Josie started blabbing nonstop, "Whatever's going on between you and Gilbert needs to stop. Ruby called dibs."

"There's nothing going on between Gilbert and I." Everly calmly told the girls, "I can assure he probably doesn't even consider us as friends-"

"Good!" Ruby cut her off, "So leave poor Gilbert alone, already."

Everly bit the inside of her cheek, "I can't control whether or not he talks to me, Ruby. And if there's actually something going with you and Gilbert- It really is none of my concern."

Josie scoffed as she rolled her eyes, "Come on, Ruby. We don't need to worry ourselves about a girl like her."

The three girls stormed off, leaving a very confused Everly behind. For the past two weeks no one told Everly about Rubys massive crush on Gilbert.

"They really don't mean any harm," Diana said as she patted Everlys shoulder, lightly.

"Oh, please, Diana. Its best for Everly to stay away from Gilbert as much as possible," Anne added from her best friends side.

"Quiet, Anne. We are supposed to be comforting her."

"But I am."

"No, you aren't."

"Yes, I am."

"No-"

"Would you two please stop bickering!" Interrupted a very irritated Everly.

"Sorry," They whispered at the same time before all three of the girls bursted out laughing.

The laughing died down and Anne spoke her opinion once again, "I'm simply giving her advice." Anne stated, while interlocking arms with Diana and Everly."Remember what Josie said to me? Keeping Gilbert anyway is the right thing to do. It's just better that way.."

They were about to walk when Diana stopped them from moving.

She proceeded to nod her head repeatedly and meet her eyes with Everlys, "Anne's right. If you want the girls to like you-"

"I don't need their validation, Diana. Respect is all I desire...It most certainly can't be that heard."

The raven haired girl frowned, "Look, I'll try talking to them. Maybe I can change their minds."

Everly let out a breath of air, "I didn't even know about Rubys unconditional love for Gilbert." She paused, "Not that any of this matters anyways- He makes me want to physically carve my eyes out. Or perhaps even go blind sometimes."

Diana and Anne both laughed at the blondes comments.

"Sometimes," Diana reminded the girl, " I've seen the way you guys laugh together...And so has Anne," She nudged the daydreaming red head in the arm.

"Oh, right!" The girl looked between her two friends, but came back to her senses, "What were we talking about?"

"Everly and Gilbert." Diana started.

"Ugh, not this again. I don't really find this conversation intriguing. Now, If it was about Cordelia and her adventures fighting for love.." Her eyes glistened with light, talking about Cordelia always had that affect on Anne.

And speaking of the one and only boy. As if on cue Gilbert walked up to Everly and without giving her time to say something, he tugged on the pink ribbon that held together her braid. Then scurried away like nothing happened.

"What are you?-" Everly felt the loose end of her braid and groaned noticing her ribbon missing, "Gilbert!" The girl scolded before following after him.

"See you two tomorrow morning," Everly yelled as she waved bye at her friends, who both gave each other a knowingly look.

He walked fast, passing everyone and Everly swiftly caught up to him, standing beside him as they walked together. "If you wanted my ribbon so bad, you should've ask." She told him, watching as he played with it in his hands.

"Would you have given it to me?"

"No."

"Exactly," Gilbert said as he waved the ribbon in Everlys face.

"Haha, very funny." She sarcastically said, but had a cheeky smile on her face.

"This isn't your way home." She added.

Gilbert put the ribbon in the pocket of his trousers and tilted his head to face Everly, "I'm aware of that." He stated.

"Then why on earth are you walking this way?"

"To walk you home," Gilbert told the girl, as if it was the most obvious thing on planet earth. "I figured since you enjoy my company so much. We might as well walk together."

Everly tan her fingers through her braid and lit the curls fall in to waves before responding to Gilbert, "Oh my, I'm truly flattered," The girl jokingly fanned herself.

He purposely hit her with his elbow, causing Everly to stumble over a little.

"Ow, Gilbert."

"Are you alright, Everly? Make sure to watch where you are going." He laughed.

The blonde rolled her eyes at him and surprisingly fast, the two made it to Everlys house.

Gilbert stopped and turned his body to face Everly. She gave him a side eye before doing the same. Gilbert reached in to his pocket, pulling out the pink ribbon then handed it to her.

The blonde took the ribbon with a confused expression on her face and Gilbert turned on his heel to walk away but then an idea came to light.

She grabbed his forearm, preventing him from leaving, "Hold on."

Gilbert raised a brow as he legs planted in to the ground.

"Let me see your hand." She demanded and he instantly held it out.

Everly gently pushed the sleeve of his brown sweater back and revealed his wrist. She then tied the pink ribbon around it, the tips of her fingers brushing against his skin, creating a bracelet.

Gilbert eyes glanced between his wrist and the blonde several times before she was finished.

"There." The girl smiled at her creation and trudged towards her home, "I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah..."

Everly waved goodbye to Gilbert before closing her door shut. Not thinking much of it.

But little did she know a certain group of girl had followed Everly and Gilbert after school.

From a distance Gilbert swore he saw something or someone. Maybe even multiple strange figures with in the trees. But brushed off, when his focus went back to his wrist, now decorated in a bright piece of ribbon.
