Hot shot was in Cook Children's Hospital. Hot shot just found out he has Ewing Sarcoma which is a type of bone cancer. Hot shot was going to need a lot of treatment in order to get better. Hot shot was worried, scared and nervous about starting his cancer treatment. Hot shot was wondering if getting cancer was his fault. He was wondering if big feelings were normal right now. He was wondering how he got cancer in the first place. Hot shot was wondering if the rest of the family knew about his cancer. Hot shot was wondering about a lot of things. But no matter what was going to happen Hot shot was going to be brave as brave can be.

Quickshadow was staying with him in the hospital tonight. His parents are going to be taking shifts with him in the hospital. They called the family and family friends and told them that Hot shot has cancer. They were all in shock that Hot shot has cancer, but they were going to be with them all the way and be supportive. Because they love them and Hot shot. They were going to be there with them in the good and bad times during his treatment. Heatwave and Quickshadow were so grateful to have such supportive friends and family who all love them so much.

Quickshadow was watching Hot shot as he slept and held Roxy the rhino close. She could tell this was hard on him and it was a big change for him. Hot shot was going through a lot and it wasn't going to be easy for him. Hot shot was taking it all in stride. He didn't even care he was going to lose his leg to the cancer. He was just happy it would allow him to be a kid again after the amputation. Quickshadow felt proud of her son for taking this in stride and being such a brave child.

Hot shot was woken by a nurse to see if he was doing okay. "I want to sleep," Hot shot told the nurse.

"I know you do," the nurse said. "But I have to make sure you are doing okay," she said.

"Oh," Hot shot said.

The nurse checked Hot shot heart and lungs. Then she took his temperature. "Okay everything seems fine," the nurse said. "You can go back to sleep now," she said.

Hot shot yawned and laid back down. He cuddled up to Roxy the rhino and went to sleep. Hot shot was sleeping as he was holding Roxy the rhino. Hot shot was trying his best to rest comfortably. But it was kind of hard since the hospital was a strange place and he wasn't used to it. Hot shot was going to be going to be in the hospital for a while.

Hot shot didn't know how long he was going to be at the hospital either. But he was looking forward to going home. That meant being with Fireplug. Hot shot knew he was going to be sick for a long time from what his doctors told him. But he was going to be very brave and strong. Hot shot was determined to get better and stay strong.

Then morning came as it always does. Hot shot woke up and saw the sun was up. He knew it was now morning. Hot shot sat up and stretched. Hot shot rubbed his eyes and saw his mother. "Good morning mummy," Hot shot said.

"Good morning Hot shot," Quickshadow said.

A nurse came into check on Hot shot to see how we was doing this morning. "Okay everything is checking out normal and you seem to be doing just fine," the nurse said. "What would you like for breakfast?" she asked.

"Do you have frosted flakes? It is my favorite cereal," Hot shot said.

"I think we do," the nurse said.

"Can I have some strawberries with it?" Hot shot asked. "I do that at home," he said. "Can I also have some milk?" he asked.

"Of course I think that can easily be arranged," the nurse said.

Then a bit later the nurse came in with Hot shot's favorite cereal and some strawberries and milk. Hot shot poured some the milk in his cereal. Then Hot shot started to eat his cereal and strawberries. Hot shot ate all of his breakfast.

Then Dr. Vallance came into the room. "Good morning Hot shot," Dr. Vallance said.

"Morning," Hot shot said.

"Morning Dr. Vallance," Quickshadow said.

"How are you today Hot shot?" Dr. Vallance said.

"I am feeling okay, I just ate breakfast," Hot shot said.

"Very good," Dr. Vallance said. "Now it is time to do some tests and check ups to make sure you are ready to go into treatment soon," she said. "Then we can help you fight and beat your cancer," she said.

"Okay," Hot shot said. "I am ready to be brave," he said.

Hot shot went to many different parts of the hospital that day. Hot shot had all kinds of tests done. Hot shot also had many types of scans. This was to help figure out when to start his treatment.

Hot shot was brave and did as he was told. When he needed to feel extra brave he gave Roxy the rhino a big hug. It helped him feel less scared. Hot shot was pretty proud of himself.

"You are doing a great job with your tests and scans poppet," Quickshadow said.

"Thanks mummy," Hot shot said with a smile.

Hot shot then had check ups with his doctors. That was going to help him be ready for treatment.

Then later in his room Dr. Vallance came in. "Hot shot you are going to start chemotherapy on Monday. It will be every five days every two weeks," Dr. Vallance said.

"Okay," Hot shot said. "For how long?" he asked.

"You will need chemotherapy for a year at most," Dr. Vallance said. "You will have your surgery eight weeks after treatment starts," she said. "Then after a few weeks of healing you will get back on chemotherapy and later be fitted for your prosthetic," she said.

"How long will I be in the hospital?" Hot shot asked.

"You will be here for three weeks and then you can go home, and will come back later for more treatment as time goes on. Sometimes you will be able to right back home after treatments or tests or check ups," Dr. Vallance said. "You might have times where you have to stay in the hospital during treatment and that is normal and will help make you better," she said.

"Okay I am going to be brave," Hot shot said.

Hot shot went to bed. He was determined to be brave.
