Chapter 6

Hot shot was enjoying sometime at home. Hot shot was happy to be home after being in the hospital for a while a couple of weeks ago. But during his time at home he still had to go to the hospital sometimes.

Hot shot liked it whenever he went to the hospital. He was able to spend time with his friends there. It made Hot shot very happy to see them.

Today Hot shot was having a hospital visit. Hot shot saw Roxy there in the infusion center.

Quickshadow was with him and smiled at Roxy.

"Hot shot qualifies for a wish from Make a wish," Roxy said.

"Good that will make him happy and give him something to look forward too," Quickshadow said. "It will help him forget about what he is going through," she said.

"Wish?" Hot shot asked.

"Yes you can wish to be something, wish to go somewhere, wish to meet someone, wish to have something or wish to give back," Roxy said. "Soon a wish coordinator will call you because I just sent in the paperwork so you have time to decide on a wish," she said.

"Cool," Hot shot said. Hot shot was excited to think about what he could wish for. Hot shot could think about what he could be, where he could go, who he could meet, what he could have, and how to give back. It was pretty exciting to think about. It made Hot shot happy to think about all of those things.

Hot shot has sometime to think about it before the wish coordinator called. Hot shot thought about it and decided he wanted to go to the happiest place on earth and that was Disneyland and he found out his friends wanted the same thing. "I wish to go to Disneyland," Hot shot said.

"That is a very nice wish," his wish coordinator named Bailey said.

Hot shot was looking forward to his wish coming true. It was soon early December and Hot shot was going to be going in to get his rotationplasty done. Hot shot was going to be very brave for it too. Hot shot was going to spend all of December and January in the hospital from what Dr. Vallance said. So Hot shot had to be ready for a long hospital stay.

Hot shot helped his parents pack things up and get ready to go. Hot shot made sure he packed comfy clothes, a pillow, a blanket, toys, stuffed animals, his tablet, and pictures of loved ones.

"You will have a cast once your rotationplasty is done," Quickshadow said.

"Cool," Hot shot said. "Can I choose the color of my cast?" he asked.

"Of course you can," Quickshadow said. "Cook children's has a wide variety of colors for casts, ranging from bright yellows, reds, oranges, light blues to dark blues, purple, pink, and even black," she said. "What ever the patient wants they get," she said.

"Oh boy," Hot shot said.

"Remember you surgery is tomorrow morning when we leave for the hospital tomorrow," Quickshadow said. "Remember like Dr. Gilbert said don't eat or drink after bed time tonight," she told him.

"Okay mummy," Hot shot said.

"Very good," Quickshadow said.

Hot shot woke up the next morning and made sure not to eat. But he was hungry though but he knew he was going to be able to eat after he has his surgery. Hot shot went with his parents to the car and was holding on to Roxy the rhino. Then they went into the car and headed to Cook children's hospital.

Hot shot soon saw Peaks the dragon and the car was parked. They went inside to the surgery center. Hot shot was waiting his turn to have his surgery done. Then after a couple of hours his name was called and he was taken back. Hot shot had his temperature checked, his blood pressure checked, his blood oxygen levels checked and had his height and weight taken.

Then Hot shot was able to wait for the surgery. Hot shot was wondering when he was going to start therapy after surgery to help get his new backwards foot working so he could get his prosthetic. "How soon after surgery will therapy start so I can get ready to have my prosthetic?" Hot shot asked.

"It will take a few weeks after surgery, to start physical therapy and the cast will be off by then," a nurse named Mikayla said. "Then 3-6 months or just a bit longer after that the bones will be healed enough to start with the prosthetic fitting," she said. "during that time when you are preparing to get your prosthetic made you can decide on how it looks from what patterns and stuff you would like to have on it," she said. "How you want it to look is all up to you," she said.

"Cool," Hot shot said. "I am so excited about it," he said.

"That's good," Mikayla said.

"But I am a little nervous about the surgery," Hot shot said.

"That's normal," Mikayla said.

"But I do want to get better," Hot shot said said. "So I am going to be brave," he said.

"Very good," Mikayla said.

Hot shot was soon taken back to have his surgery. He gave his parents big hugs and was then taken back. Then Hot shot taken into the OR. Hot shot met a lot of people there. Hot shot saw the anesthesiologist. "Okay Hot shot I have a few flavors for you medicine air smell, do you want apple, or bubblegum, or cotton candy, or cupcake?" he asked him.

"Cotton candy," Hot shot said. Soon Hot shot began to take big breaths of the medicine air. He began to feel very sleepy. Then he fell asleep and the doctors when right to work at the operation. During that time Hot shot was dreaming. He was playing with Fireplug his puppy. It was a very nice and wonderful dream.

Soon Hot shot began to wake up and he was bit unaware where he was at first. But then he remembered the operation. "I'm ready for the surgery," Hot shot said.

"Hot shot is over," Quickshadow said. "You are now in the ICU this where patients who have a surgery like rotationplasty wake up," she told him.

"Can I see?" Hot shot asked.

Heatwave moved the blanket for Hot shot and he was able to see his left knee was gone and his left foot was on backwards. "It's different but I will get used to it," Hot shot said with a smile. Hot shot was going to need to stay in the hospital for a while still but nothing he can't handle.
