Hot shot was in the hospital after his rotationplasty surgery a few days ago. Hot shot was soon moved from the ICU to the oncology ward after a few days. Hot shot was getting used to the change. Hot shot could even wiggle his toes on the rotationplasty. "That is very good," Dr. Gilbert said. "It means that things are working well," he said. "Now Hot shot can rest and recover," he said.

Hot shot was recovering in the hospital during this time and was going to be there until February. Hot shot knew it was going to be a long time there. But he as going to be strong through it all.

Right now Hot shot was getting around in a wheelchair recovering from the surgery. "Hi," Hot shot said seeing his friends. "I see you guys got your rotationplasty surgeries too," he said.

"Yes I got mine," Hoist said.

"I got mine done too," Medix said.

"I got mine all done," Whirl said.

"I got mine done as well," Wedge said.

"I am looking forward to starting therapy once I recover some more," Hot shot said.

"Me too," His friends said.

Hot shot and his friends all drew on each other's casts. The other patients in the hospital drew on the casts and wrote their names on the casts too. Hot shot found it to be a lot of fun and it made his cast look very colorful.

"Awesome my cast looks great," Hot shot said.

"It sure does," Quickshadow said.

Hot shot was able to do things while recovering from his surgery. He was getting therapy to learn how to walk with crutches. Hot shot was very busy with his walking on crutches. He was getting the hang of it quickly. "You are a fast learner Hot shot," his physical therapist Lou said.

"How long will therapy take even after I get my prosthetic?" Hot shot asked.

"It can take a year at least," Lou told him. "You will also need new prosthetics as you grow because you are still growing," he said.

"A year that is a long time," Hot shot said. "But it will be worth it to get back to running, jumping, climbing, and playing and even doing sports," he said.

"Very good," Lou said.

Hot shot was still having regular check ups with his care team during his stay. "Okay everything is looking good so far," Dr. Vallance said. "You will soon be receiving more chemotherapy by Christmas," she said. "Then you will have rehab therapy to help your rotationplasty to start working for you by the end of January, and then by the end of July you should be able to get your first prosthetic and start therapy with that," she told him. "Then by the following January after next year you will be able to do things easily," she explained. "You will also be able to go to school, because you need to the whole year to focus on your rehab for your rotationplasty, but you will be able to attend classes virtually and do classes with our hospital teachers so you won't fall behind and be able to do things for your grade level," she explained.

"Great," Hot shot said. Hot shot liked the sound of that. "Will I be able to play sports like baseball, soccer, basketball and football?" he asked.

"Yes you should be able too," Dr. Vallance said. "You will be able to handle the high impact of those activities much easier now that you have a rotationplasty instead of an above the knee amputation," she said. "it will give you more freedom to do those things, you can even do things like ride horses, play tennis, swim, rock climb, ride your bike, roller skate, and do skate boarding when you get bigger," she said. "You can even jump rope, and do hard physical activity if you want," she said. "It will give you the freedom you desire," she said. "You can even play with other kids at recess when you finally get to go to school," she said.

"Wow," Hot shot said feeling amazed. "That is amazing," he said. "I am looking forward to starting rehab," he said.

"Yes but you need to wait six weeks because then your cast will be off," Dr. Vallance said. "You might see some stitches clearly when the cast comes off and the skin will look pale and dirty, but that is normal," she told him. "Once it comes off we will be able to clean it and it will get some much needed air," she added.

"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot could accept that. "But it also gets itchy under the cast," he said.

"That is normal," Dr. Vallance said. "Just give a light tap or have your mom or dad blow air from a blow dryer on a cold setting to help relieve the itch." she said. "But I can also give you an antihistamine to help with the itch if those don't work," she said.

"Oh okay," Hot shot said.

Once the check up was over Hot shot was able to relax with his lunch at Chic-fil-a. Hot shot was pretty hungry. Hot shot was able to go to the playroom a bit later and have some fun. Hot shot was able to play with the other children in the hospital while in the playroom. Hot shot was having a lot fun and enjoying himself.

Hot shot was not only looking forward to starting rehab but also to going home. Hot shot knew he wasn't going home until February so he was going to have to be patient for it. Hot shot was doing his best to be patient for it.

Before anyone knew it, it was Christmas and Hot shot was in the hospital and got presents from family and family friends. Hot shot was happy to see that they were all thinking of him. "I love the presents," Hot shot said.

"The family will be glad to hear you like what they got for you," Quickshadow said.

"I am looking forward to coming home," Hot shot said. "I miss Fireplug," he said.

"He misses you too son," Heatwave told him. "You will be home before you know it," he said.

It was soon January and Hot shot's cast was coming off today. "Okay Hot shot it's time for the cast to come off," the nurse told him.

"Will it hurt?" Hot shot asked.

"Don't worry the little saw we are using won't hurt at all," the nurse said. "It will tickle a little though," she told him.

Then the cast was taken off, and the saw did tickle, it didn't hurt one bit. Hot shot found that to be pretty cool. Hot shot was soon going to start rehab.

"Okay Hot shot just practice moving the foot back and forth," Lou told him.

"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot began to slowly move his foot on the rotationplasty back and forth. Hot shot was doing it carefully and slowly. It was a bit odd at first but he knee it was going to help.

"Very good," Lou said.

When February rolled around Hot shot was getting ready to go home. Hot shot was looking forward to going home. He helped his parents make sure that they packed everything. Hot shot was glad he could help his parents. Then they headed home.

Once arriving home Fireplug greeted them once they entered the house. Fireplug went up to Hot shot and began to lick his face. "I missed you too Fireplug." Hot shot said.

It was great to be home and now the family was able to relax for a bit until Hot shot's next treatment.
