New Beginnings

It's 7 in the morning, and it's Katsumi Takeda's first day of high school. Transferring schools isn't something extraordinary, only this school is; it's UA, the school for wannabe heroes to become something in life. As Katsumi wakes up and looks at her alarm clock, she remembers that this day isn't a normal day. She jumps out of bed and runs downstairs, to where her mother is cooking breakfast.

"Good morning, sweetheart," her mother, Aiko Takeda, says as she looks up from the stove.

"Morning, Mama!," says Katsumi.

Katsumi sits down at the kitchen table, awaiting for her mother to finish cooking. One of her brothers comes downstairs and shoves Katsumi out of her seat.

"Hey! I was sitting there!" Katsumi yells.

"Not anymore you aren't," Kaji Takeda retorts, with a sheepish look of annoyance on his face.

Katsumi has three older brothers, Hinote, Homura, and Kaji. Hinote and Homura are away living on their own and Kaji is still living at home, since he's only two years older than Katsumi. Katsumi is 15, with her older brothers being 20 and 19, respectively. They moved out when Katsumi was still being homeschooled, so that meant she spent a lot of time with her brothers. Kaji was never homeschooled due to his destructive personality and this caused Katsumi to not be very close to Kaji. Kaji is a third-year student at UA, but Katsumi doubts he'll pay heed to his little sister.

"Whatever Kaji," Katsumi utters as she sits at the far end of the table, far away as possible from her older brother.

Their mother laughs at Katsumi and Kaji's interaction, often doing so to lighten the mood. She sets breakfast down at the table and sits at one end of it. Her husband, Kenshi Takeda, is away on business, so Aiko has to handle her two most fierce children all by her lonesome. Her husband has the "Blade Mastery" quirk, which allows him to control and manipulate various types of blades at will. Instead of becoming a hero, Kenshi went into the military business, supplying his swords to be used by others in combat. This is how the Takeda family has wealth and connections. Katsumi's mother, although having a quirk, isn't as powerful as her children are. Her quirk is called "Ember Spark", allowing her to create small flames for her to use in useful ways. She often uses her flames for cooking, and for maintaining and upkeeping the cleanliness of her home.

"Better hurry up children, or you'll be late for school," Aiko instructs. It's not the first day of school for Kaji, since he has been going to UA for months now, but it is for Katsumi. She gobbles her food, and runs back up stairs to get ready.

As she admires her UA school uniform, she can't help but feel nervous. She's always been a confident child and she's afraid of nothing... except this. This has been her dream since her quirk, "Inferno Blade", awakened when she was 10. Her quirk unlocked very late compared to other children, so she is quite new with handling it. Even though she was a late bloomer, that didn't stop her from wanting to achieve her goals: help people and make the world a better place. She understands that that is most peoples' goals, but she truly believes she can be a light in such a dark world.

Eventually she realizes that she is going to be really late if she continues to daydream. She hurriedly puts her uniform on, and goes to the bathroom to fix her hair. She decides not to put makeup on because she would just sweat it off during training. Her bright orange hair falls past her shoulders, and lands in the middle of her back. Her mother usually braids it for her, but she learned how to by herself. She understands that even a simple task as braiding hair needs to be accomplished on her own if she wants to become a true hero.

Her hair in two braids and her clean, crisp uniform on, she practically skips down to meet her mother waiting for her. Katsumi looks around expecting her brother to be there, as she thought they would walk together to school. She looks back at her mom to meet a disappointed expression.

"I tried stopping him from going without you, but you know how he is," Aiko says with a hint of sadness behind her tone.

"Yes Mama, I understand." Katsumi reaches to hug her mother goodbye and grabs her bag that's waiting for her on the floor.

The door is sprung open by Katsumi and she walks outside to meet the hot humid weather of July. She participated in a unofficial entrance exam, overseen by UA's principle, Nezu, and the first year teachers. The reason she is attending so late is because Nezu and the other teachers had to decide whether or not Katsumi should be allowed to transfer as a homeschooled student directly into the Hero Course. After an agreement made by Katsumi's father, Mr. Principle finally allowed Katsumi to attend. Her father agreed to supply the necessary amount of swords to the school for training purposes on the condition his daughter allow to register. Katsumi knows that she really didn't get in on her abilities alone, but she is ready to prove herself, not only to her family and new students, but herself as well.

Katsumi begins to walk in the direction of UA High School, and her heart skips a beat in anticipation. Her mind begins to run a mile a minute and starts to conjure up a million different scenarios of what could possibly go wrong. Although she is a confident girl, she is also anxious as to how her first day of the Hero Course could go. The walk to the schools feels like forever but it's only a 25 minute walk from her house.

As she nears the looming building that will be her new beginning, she almost debates on turning back and going straight home... almost. She knows that this is what she must do and she pushes on to the front of the school. She looks up to see the same UA crest that's on her school uniform, looking back down to her, calling her. The wind blows and it stirs the embers lying deep within her core to a great fire, giving her the confidence to face her new life!
