Mr. Aizawa reveals the first task of only two. Just two tasks will determine whether or not Katsumi passes, and whether or not she will get her summer vacation with her friends. The first tasks consists of those same robots, but with a twist: the robots now have the capability to mimic each opponents' quirks, down to the very moves the student has came up with. Katsumi starts strategizing how she will be able to win against herself, which is ultimately what the task is about. Mr. Aizawa states that this test will be assessing the students on how effective each student uses their quirk, combat strategy and adaptability, how good each student defends and offends, and how much time it takes to overcome the robot. Since the robot will be designed to mimic Katsumi's abilities and moves, she needs to think about her weaknesses. She decides to ask Ocacho her weaknesses, since she's knows Katsumi's moves the best.
"Hey Ochaco, what are some weaknesses I have when you fight me?" Ochaco is surprised at the question, but she quickly thinks about it.
"Well, you're not very strong, and you rely too much on your quirk." Katsumi slumps her shoulders, but regains her composure. If these things are true about her, then it's true about the robot. Now to find out ways to overcome those weaknesses.
Mr. Aizawa instructs for the kids to change into their costumes, and head to Arena Charlie to find out who goes first, and the rules. All Might is there to explain who goes when.
"Okay! You will draw lots to decide who goes first. Those who are waiting to go may wait in the control room! Let's get it started!" Although All Might has taught them before, Katsumi still gets surprised about how overly excited he is about everything.
Katsumi places her hand in the box, and draws a random number: 8. Okay great, she's eighth in line, so that means she has time to come up with a plan to defeat herself. She goes over all her previous battles, and recalls how she lost. "I rely too much on my quirk huh?" She thinks about how she can use her environment to her advantage.
First up was Takoyami, then Aoyama, Ashido, Tsu, Iida, Ochaco, and finally Ojiro. Next up was Katsumi, and she's excited to go out there and win. She walks down the steps to the arena where she will battle a specially made robot, designed to mimic Katsumi's quirk, fighting style, and abilities.
All Might's voice can be heard over the intercom saying, "Are you ready? GO!!" Instantly, the robot comes crashing in from behind some buildings. The robot adjusts itself to mirror Katsumi's build and size. "Probably to keep it fair" Katsumi thinks.
The robot creates two blades out of fire, and charges towards Katsumi. Of course it is. Close-combat is the exact fighting style Katsumi has adopted. Katsumi takes two swords out of her sheath on her back, and channels her flames through them. Katsumi goes on the defense, and shields her body with her swords, bracing for impact. Katsumi knew it was a good idea to have her costume made out of fire-resistant material, and it's paying off. The robot slashes her blades, and fire comes spitting out of them, headed for Katsumi. Katsumi drops to the ground, rolls to the side, and jumps back up. She needs to use the environment to her advantage, and a weakness to fire is water. She quickly looks around for any type of tool she can use: water hydrant, hose, water tower, etc. She runs, leading the robot away, trying to find anything she can use.
She turns the corner and sees a hydrant about 50 feet in front of her. Katsumi needs to time it right if she wants to defeat the robot. The robot needs to produce fire, so the water can extinguish the flames, and get inside of the robot, causing it to malfunction. Katsumi spins around, producing her flames again. As she was running, she put them out to conserve energy, which is something she is also is bad at.
She gets ready to use Flame Burst, a long-range attack. Katsumi knows that, if someone did that move against her, she would use her Inferno Shield, so Katsumi assumes that the robot would do the same. Katsumi concentrates her flames into the tips of her blades, and thrusts forward, aiming directly at the robot's mid-section. As Katsumi assumed, the robot spins its blades quickly, producing a barrier of fire. Now's the time for Katsumi to use the water to her advantage.
Katsumi runs over to the fire hydrant, and screws off the side, releasing a blast of water. The robot was just in range for the water to reach it. Not only did the water extinguish the flames, but it caused the robot to go crazy. The robot started to twitch and run in circles, having it go haywire. After a moment, the robot crashes to the ground, and a loud buzzer sounds. Katsumi jumps up and down, soaking wet. She knew she could defeat the robot, and she's glad that the plan she made up on the spot actually worked.
Katsumi heads back to the control room, and everyone applauds as she walks in. She hugs Ochaco, Momo, and Tsu, as they congratulate her. Tsu and Ochaco were both able to defeat their robot, passing the first task. Bakugo pulled number 17, so he is still in the room, waiting for his turn. Katsumi does a thumbs up towards Bakugo, but unfortunately, he ignored her.
Bakugo was watching Katsumi the entire time she competed. He was analyzing her actions and the way she executed her plan. He was silently impressed, but didn't let it show on his face. The way Katsumi thought how to defeat the robot without relying on her quirk let Bakugo know that he made the right choice to befriend her. Bakugo uses his quirk just as much as anyone else, but he also uses his brain to conjure up plans to allow his quirk to be utilized. He catches Katsumi's attention, and gave her a head nod.
