Lisa just woke up, still half asleep as she went down the stairs. She’s still sleepy but there’s a school excursion today out of the city, and she really wanted to go together with her friends and classmates. They will be visiting the zoo, some boring museum and a carnival afterwards.

She was about to go to the kitchen to ask her nanny for an early breakfast when she heard people whispering. All the lights on their house are switched on, which is odd considering it is only four in the morning.
Maybe her grandpop is still entertaining some of his friends from the party that went on last night, she mused. Her grandpop, Maro Manoban caters to numerous big parties with a lot of his friends. The older Manoban was friendly, popular and in Lisa’s ten year old eyes – the coolest grandfather in the world.

Her grandpop has lots of friends, even though they are only immigrants on this country originally from Thailand, he has a lot of Korean friends. Lisa is already fluent in Korean. She was living here for almost 4 years. Her bestfriends Seulgi and Jisoo are Koreans who help her learn the language faster.

She was already familiar with her grandpop’s friends. Those friends give her lots of presents when they come and talk to her grandpop, not that they are lacking of anything, Manobans are living a luxuriant lifestyle. Her young mind doesn’t have the exact idea on what her grandpop does, all she knew was he was a businessman that buys and sell stuffs.

Lisa smiled, maybe she and her grandpop can eat breakfast together. She was on her way to the living room to check on the coices when she overheard what the voices were saying.

“The police are hot on your ass, Maro. If I were you, I would probably go out of the country just to cool down.”

“That is not possible,” her grandpop said. “I will never ever cower on my fights, Jeong. We are just taking back what money we have lost because of the bastards in our organization. Things are different.”

“Then it’s up to you, just be careful, Manoban.”

“I have nothing to be afraid, Park.”

Lisa was confused with what she heard. It seems like there is something wrong? She doesn’t know what, but why would her grandpop needs to be careful?

“Maro, your granddaughter,” Mr. Park said. Her grandfather looked at her and automatically smiled.

“Pokpak, why are you awake at this hour?” He looks like he was tense, even if his tone is soft towards her.

“It’s our out of school trip today, grandpop,” Lisa answered.

“Yes, yes, you mentioned that,” he took his wallet and hand her some bills. “Here, go and buy yourself and your friends yummy treats. Spend every penny wisely.”

“Thank you, grandpop.” Lisa smiled. She can buy a lot of their favorite candies with that money. Her grandfather always gave her extra school money. “Where is dad?”

“I asked your father to ran some errands for me, sweetpea. Go and eat your breakfast, your nanny is waiting for you in the kitchen.” Her grandfather fondly messes the top of her hair and kissed her cheek.
Instead of directly go to the kitchen she slowed down her steps. The elders talked again.

“Are you planning to send your granddaughter to study abroad, Maro?” Mr. Park asked.

“Maybe, but she’s still too young. You know she doesn’t have her mother anymore, no one will take care of her there. Her father could come with her, but I needed Marco to help me in the business.” Lisa’s father helps with their family business. She didn’t remember her mother, she passed away when she was still a toddler because of cancer. She grew up with only her dad and grandpop.

It seems her grandfather is planning to send her away to study. She was saddened by the thought; all her friends are here in Korea. She also has friends in Thailand, but she already has best friends and doesn’t want to go anywhere else.

“Lisa is a really smart kid, she is at the top of her class,” her grandfather proudly adds.

“Will she be taking over the business?”

“Maybe.”

Lisa just shrug and continue her walk to the kitchen to go eat her breakfast. She still needed to prepare; in an hour the school bus will arrive to pick her up. She decided that all the questions on her mind are just silly, and she should focus on what snacks to bring on the trip instead.

Lisa just got out of the bus. The class trip was awesome. She and her friends rode all the carnival rides and spend all of Lisa’s pocketmoney eating candies and junk foods to their hearts’ contents.

She’s walking towards their gate with a big smile still plaster on her face. A few meters away from their house and she saw a couple of police cars parked in front of their driveways, the red sirens are even on. Lisa’s heart almost jumps in fear of what could have happened.

She run and found her father outside their house. Marco Manoban looked so dazed.

“Dad?” Lisa called her father.

“Lis!” Her father hugged her.

“What happened here?” Her father acting this way doesn’t ease the worry in her heart.

“Oh, sweetheart… It’s your grandpop,” but before her father could continue, Lisa saw her grandfather being taken out form their home by two policemen.

“Grandpop! Where are you taking him?” Lisa yelled at the officers.

Her father hugged her by her waist, trying to stop her moving further.

“It’s okay, pokpak… Don’t worry about grandpop. Everything’s alright.” Her grandfather tried to reassure her, but Lisa knew that nothing is okay.

How would it’d be alright if the police are taking him and they are not telling where would they bring her grandfather?
