Weeks later, Jennie and Lisa finally had the time to go back to Utopia to relax and have a mini-vacation. Jennie was positive that they would enjoy their time there together much more than the first time. They had already arrived that morning, leaving the city at dawn in Lisa’s car. Her family was aware that she would be spending the weekend with Lisa and just wished them to have fun. She was old enough to spend weekends away, especially since it was with Lisa. Her parents didn’t ask further.
They had breakfast overlooking the man-made lake. They lounged there, enjoying the morning. They deserved the break. Jennie’s head lay on top of Lisa’s thighs as they talked about nothing specific, just sharing random stories. They also had lunch there.
Around two in the afternoon, a hotel staff member approached them.
“Ms. Manoban, someone is looking for Ms. Kim. A Ms. Roséanne Kim?”
“Oh, she’s here?” Jennie asked, surprised. She knew that her sister would arrive from the US that day, but she didn’t think Rosé would be following her to Utopia. “That’s my sister. I had no idea why she's here.”
“Really? Well, let’s invite her to stay. I want to meet her.” Lisa smiled and told the staff to ask her sister to come to the lake. “What is she like?”
“Rosie? I don’t know. We never really got along. We have different wavelengths, I guess? But she’s okay.”
The blonde nodded, “I want to meet her.”
After about fifteen minutes, Jennie saw Rosé heading their way. She immediately hugged her. Her sister was so tall and was now sporting strawberry-blonde hair, which suited her. Rosé had always been the wild one. Jennie knew that her sister had her own ambitions in life and honestly thought the younger woman was even smarter than her. Unfortunately, Rosé seemed uninterested in using her intelligence in academics. She preferred to party and have a “fun” life rather than spend her time studying. Since they were younger, she had always been like that—nothing had changed.
Her sister was wearing slashed jeans, a vintage tank top and a leather jacket. Rosé had always been a fashionista. Although Jennie had modeled, it was mostly for tv commercials, since she wasn’t into that kind of life. Rosé was even taller than Lisa, which allowed her sister to do some runway modeling before. But Rosé did not like the strict discipline it required.
“You don’t have jet lag?” Jennie asked the younger woman.
“I do, unnie. But I missed you. And… I want to meet you.” Rosé switched her attention to Lisa, who looked like she was enjoying meeting her sister. The blonde was smiling broadly.
“Yeah, this is Lisa. Lisa, this is my sister, Rosé.”
“Hi. How are you?” Lisa asked, holding out her hand.
The youngest took the handshake, even clutching her chest with her other hand as she responded. “Enchanté. I’m doing great.”
“I’m going to go get you something to drink,” Lisa said, bidding them goodbye.
“Oh my God! She’s so gorgeous!” Rosé exclaimed. Jennie felt a twinge of annoyance at her sister. She was aware that Rosé was open to liking women; she had accidentally read her diary when they were little, and Rosé even had a girlfriend back in junior high. So, her complimenting Lisa’s looks bothered Jennie.
She decided to change the topic. “So, have you graduated yet, Rosie?”
“Not yet, unnie. But next term, that’s for sure.”
“Next term?”“Yeah. My thesis is hard. Georgetown is not an easy school, and you know it.”
Before Jennie could express her thoughts about Rosé’s lack of interest in finishing school, Lisa returned with a hotel staff member, bringing them snacks. The two then started talking. It seemed Lisa was amused by Rosé. Jennie couldn’t blame the Thai; her sister had an overflowing charm. She was a joker too. Before long, the two were laughing as if they were old friends instead of strangers who had just met minutes ago.
