It was one of Jennie's saddest birthdays despite the celebration she had at the office.
Her parents, grandfather, and sister were all there and joined her for lunch. Even all the employees were treated to a feast. Her sister arranged for food to be delivered for everyone. Yet it did not lessen the sadness she felt.
Lisa was not there.
The last time the two of them met, it had not gone well, to say the least. Her afternoon returned to normal; she couldn’t feel that it was her birthday. There was nothing special about that day except for the lunch. Stop moping around, it’s your birthday! She chastised herself, but the feeling of emptiness still lingered.
She knew what to do; she needed to stop hoping that Lisa would show up. She should not expect her to remember it was her birthday. She needed to cease pining for her, wishing that the blonde would call and greet her or at least send her a text. That was not going to happen; she knew it was the truth, but she still couldn’t help the anticipation of checking her phone every time it pinged today, feeling like a deflated balloon when it was not the Thai’s name. Jennie needed a distraction—that was what she needed.
When the clock hit five, she heard a couple of knocks on her door before Rosé came in. She had been assisting her with work before going back to school in a few weeks.
"Hey, sis. Don’t forget the client meeting tomorrow was moved to nine; I already adjusted your Outlook calendar." She smiled at her sister, who was busy tapping away on her phone as she spoke. Jennie was glad to see how Rosé seemed to be enjoying her work at the company. She was smart and had a knack for handling challenging schedules that even Jennie herself found difficult to arrange.
"Thanks, Rosie. Are you going home now?"
"No, not yet. I am actually taking you somewhere fun." Finally putting her phone away, the taller woman smiled at her sister with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Fun?"
"Yes, we are going belly dancing!"
"What?"
"Come on, Unnie. I enrolled the two of us in a belly dancing class after work for two weeks!" The younger sister excitedly squealed, a proud grin on her lovely face.
"It would be super fun, Jennie-unnie. I promise you will love it."
"Okay, let’s go." She stood up and grabbed her purse. Her younger sister raised one of her eyebrows, surprise evident on her face, but she smiled widely as she linked her arm with Jennie’s.
Not long after, they were inside Rosé's car heading to the dance studio. Her sister thought of everything, from the dancing gear to the waist chains.
As they finally got out of the car, Jennie's decision solidified—she should stop moping on her birthday. She should stop thinking about Lisa and stop being sad.
You said you needed a distraction, right? But belly dancing? Why the hell not? She thought and smiled, looking forward to dancing with her sister.

"Good morning," Jennie greeted everyone in the meeting room. All the members of the board were there; it was the company's quarterly presentation to the entire board.
Her eyes automatically searched for Lisa, but instead, she saw a man whom she guessed was a representative of the Manobans. He formally introduced himself; his name was Bambam. She was right; he had been sent as Lisa's representative for the meeting.
He worked in Manoban Industries and he and Lisa were second cousins. Bambam was funny and seemed kind. He looked different from his cousin, but she guessed, like all the Manobans, he was gorgeous too.
